+rogueleader1977
So today I take a look at my one week old Explorist 210 and see what looks like specks of dirt on the screen. I go to wipe it of and realize it is inside. 'What in the world?' I think. So I turn it off. The 'specks' fade away. So they weren't specks of dirt but some problem with the LCD. They went away but now there is what can only be described as a very faint 'bruise' on the LCD. Does anyone know what might cause this? I did not drop the unit. Besides this is my second Explorist 210. I lost my first one, went briefly to a Venture Cx, sold that and went back to the Explorist. I have been very happy with that decision. I find my Explorist FAR more accurate than the Venture Cx. But now I have the 'bruise'. I mean I litterally slid down a mountain with my old Explorist, dropped it multiple times, and it held up fine. Whats the deal? I am debating now if I should return it. Problem was I bought it off the net and I hate going through the trouble of returning something through the mail. Quote Link to comment
+Kabuthunk
Only thing that comes to mind offhand is something vaguely similar that happened with an old Gameboy of mine. The screen got too cold, and discoloured. Has it been anywhere extremely cold, or perhaps sitting in a bag where something cold (like a cold can of pepsi, or anything that was put from a freezer into your bag on top of the GPS)? That's about all I can think of. In either case... no matter what it's caused by, I'd still exchange it. I'd personally think the 'bruise' would annoy me after a bit. EDIT: Changed it to 'exchange' instead of 'return'. I'm fairly certain a correctly working explorist shouldn't have this problem. Edited March 11, 2007 by Kabuthunk Quote Link to comment

As it was about 60 out today, I kind of doubt it. Went in my pocket and it was fine, came out of my pocket and there were the spots! Quote Link to comment
+embra
Sounds like a manufacturing defect. Such things are not common, but they happen. I guess your choices are to try and exchange (or return) it, or live with it. Quote Link to comment
+redcoyote12
Stuck pixels maybe, like on computer monitors. I sent my 210 back to Magellan when the firmware locked up, they sent me a new one about a month later. If it's bothersome I'd call in the warranty, that's what it's for. +CheshireFrog
Try flexing the case a bit and see if it changes the pattern. I've seen where the protective lens over the LCD has been pressing down and caused a darkening effect in the area it's contacting. Quote Link to comment
