Steinninn
I've been thinking about buying myself a stack of items to put in caches so that I can trade them with souvenirs. Do you have any good ideas for items? I'd probably buy lots of the same stuff. Quote Link to comment
+Chokecherry
Some people really like personalized items like wooden nickels and so forth. Personally I'll grab stuff at various stores on sale or in the dollar aisles. I also ordered some bulk toys for bracelets and rubber duckies. Finally I go to at least one conference a year which has a bunch of vendor tables. I typically don't look at what I'm grabbing at the time. Some of hte stuff I use and some of it becomes swag for caches. Just put a pizza cutter into one the other day. Have put ice scrapers in and all sorts of weird stuff like that. Quote Link to comment
+FolsomNatural
I agree with Choke: I buy in bulk and it really saves a lot. I find that most caches are rather small, so the tiny items are most useful. I buy at dollar stores and in bulk on line. I have bought small compasses (doesn't everyone need a compass?), magnifiers, pins, tokens, coins, and memorabilia. I also go to thrift stores and look at the jewelry items. Most thrift stores have once-a-month 50% off sales, and I buy a lot of tiny jewelry items (rings, pins, necklaces) that fit into small caches. The Thrift stores are also good for finding items that you can use as travel bugs with your trackables tags. Good luck; let us know how it progresses with you. Quote Link to comment
+mikehoffman
Mothballs, because no one will muggle them. Quote Link to comment
+A & J Tooling
Don't buy dollar store junk. The metal stuff will rust right away and the plastics have no inhibators to stop them from breaking down in the heat and cold. People seem to love homemade stuff the most. Quote Link to comment
+FishieFive
We went to a craft store and bought a bag of really cool glass beads. They're lovely and won't be ruined if they get wet. Small enough to hide in most caches, but large enough to be a cool item. We got the idea from a bead cache where all of the tradeables were beads. I'm thinking of collecting bead tradeables and making a bracelet or something. I got them on sale so they ended up being about 25 cents each. Quote Link to comment
+Keelmann And Cici
I've found if you're patient and read carefully, you can get some very nice items on eBay, running $2 or less. Quote Link to comment
+tagteam3
I also went to a local craft store and found on clearence a string of really pretty star shaped metal beads that had lots of detail in them. On the string were 12 of them for $1.50 so I bought two strings of them...in theory 24 caches for $3 not bad and they are really cool looking. I also bought some glass beads that were unique that were also on clearence. I was in another city caching and ran across a local cacher who must buy individually wrapped little colored frogs ( way cute) and then he had little stickers with his name stuck to each one of them. You can buy that type of stuff cheap on www.orientaltrading.com and in bulk. Quote Link to comment

jeffreylebowski
I own a local business and we have stickers that we give out free to customers. If I left a sticker (with the backing still on, of course) into caches that I find, as a personal token, would that be generally frowned upon by other cachers? Would this clutter things too much? I don't mean it as advertisement but can understand that people may interpret as so. Any thoughts? -LEBOWSKI Quote Link to comment

I don't think it's a big deal, so long as you leave *one* per cache, and not a whole stack! It might depend on exactly what the sticker says as to how it is perceived. Quote Link to comment

Thanks Buckeye, in thinking more about it, I'd rather not see stickers start to make their way into caches, unless they are individually thought out and each unique. If I were to put one of my businesses stickers in a cache, it would probably best be put in a cache very far away from my local area.. Better to keep business and pleasure separate. Thanks for the reply! Quote Link to comment

Thanks for the reply! If you like the sticker idea, and have a source for making them that you like, you could always make stickers with your caching name and some kind of picture/artwork/symbol and leave it as your signature item. There's a couple of "signature item" threads around here somewhere that are pretty interesting. edited to add: thread #1, thread #2 Edited June 20, 2011 by BuckeyeClan Quote Link to comment
