Garmin Oregon 600

I downloaded 19 caches into the Oregon 600. I confirmed the 19 where in the GPX file. Only 10 showed up on the cache list to go search for. What is wrong?

Check your filters. Make sure you're not excluding any cache types.

I loaded each cache individually from geocaching.com as they were a series down one road. All were traditional. Is there a place in the Oregon that has filters? If so, where do I find it?

The furthest was about 48 miles. When I checked the GPX file on my computer before we left there were 19 caches. When we arrived at the first one the GPS still only listed 10. When we found the first cache I logged it found and then clicked on "Next closest". It went to #2, when done with that one, logged, then asked for next closest and it skipped to #4 which was on the list. Number 3 did not show up. I am aware about the 100 mile distance when I loaded a pocket query for California while I was home in Arizona and they didn't show up until we got closer. Thank you for that reminder.

As part of the geocaching "app," there is a filters page (the tab to the right of the list at the top). Just make sure that all cache sizes, types, difficulty and terrain ratings are enabled. Maybe even enable all caches by status as well just in case a few accidentally got loaded with a "found" status.

I checked my filter pages on the geocaching "app" and everything is set to see all. I also looked in the Oregon manual for filters. Went to setup>geocaching>Filter setup> create filter. It was set to "show all" as the filter to use. I did look at edit to see what was there and everything was set to see ALL types, etc. I went back to the geocache list on the Oregon and it still only shows 10 of the 19 that are in the GPX file. Thank you for your help. Still do not know why I am only getting a partial list.

The only other thing I can think of is that maybe a few of them created "bad" gpx files or didn't index properly. Try any of the following:

 

1. remove the GPX files from the device, turn it on and boot up, plug it back in and reinstall the files and see if they all appear. If the caches are loaded on a SD card, just remove the card rather than deleting the files.

 

2. Try making a PQ that includes the caches you want to visit, either with a bookmark list or by restricting the search radius to the size of the trail and see if that gets them all to load properly.

Thank you for your time and suggestions. I will try your last suggestion to see what happens. Maybe I should make pocket queries for this device as I have had missing caches before. If I'm close to the caches that I'm loading I will check to see if they are all there on the screen list. If not then I can try to reload them. I use my old faithful Etrex 20 more than the Oregon because it's so easy and never a problem.

I have an oregon 600 as well, but I've never had an issue like this with geocaches not showing. On my 450, it was an all or nothing issue, but that was the infamous indexing problem. The only time I had a problem similar to this with the 450 was when I first started. I had been loading caches one at a time using the "Send to GPS" feature and I inadvertently hit the 200 GPX limit (at the time, it has since been increased). That pissed me off when we were hiking in an area and none of the caches I loaded had showed up.

 

I doubt you hit your 2000 GPX file limit on your Oregon 600, because that would be a lot of data loaded individually.

Personally. I would delete all GPX and GGZ files from the device and re-boot. If you are on a MAC, empty the trash first as well. Then put on the pocket query and reboot again. Sometimes the indexing gets messes up.

I'm using windows 7 and this time I just entered them individually. I have had this problem before when a few did not show up. I did use a pocket query once before with no problem. I will try what you suggested. The screen does show the caches we did find yesterday as open boxes. I will see if they show up as found when I re-enter them and if the missing ones show up. I guess I had a "duh" moment. I deleted all the caches in the GPX and GZZ files. Reloaded the first 10 in the series and the same ones were missing. I looked again at the screen again and then SAW the filter you told me about in the upper right corner and sure enough the D/T were not at "show all" on the device. I slid all the bars to include all D/T, saved it and guess what - they were all there. It goes to show you I really do not know enough about my device. If it wasn't for the advice from you and the other person I would not have known what happened. I think I better get my manual out and study more about what this device really can do. Thank you so much for all your help and advice.

This happens more often than you'd think, which is why the first thing I tell people is to check their filters.
