+charlenni
The first question of Wegge a few month ago when announcing the Wherigo Foundation project was, if there also would be a new version for Garmin. The answer was no. And the same question would come today. But when we have access to the compiler, than there could be done things, which couldn't be done before. One of this things is to remove the ShowScreen bug (thank you Wegge for this wonderful solution), which lets the Garmins crash, if you make a ShowScreen with one of the lists. Another one is the handling of special characters like ä, Ü and ß, only used outside the US. This is now also possible. Garmins use a Win-1252 encoding of character and so only 255 characters are possible, but to use them all is even better than now. You could find them on Wikipedia. Also the image problem with different image format could be solved. All valid image formats (BMP, GIF, JPG and PNG) are converted to JPG, 24 bpp, and resized to max. 230 px width. I don't managed it, to remove the input bug, were Garmins crash, if you remove an input screen with a message box. This could handled with a check in your OnGetInput function, where you only have to check for "input == nil" and if true, return (or do anything else). Sorry for that. So, I'm now searing for other workarounds, that could managed by the compiler, so that new users don't have so much problems with Garmins. Any ideas? Quote Link to comment
+proudcdnguy
Hello! This thread hasn't been updated in over a year and I thought I'd inquire as to whether any progress has been made. I recently bought a Garmin eTrex 30 and was wondering if this unit might be supported in the future. Thanks for the work that is being done to make Wherigo caches more accessible to a wider audience on various mobile platforms. Cheers, Proudcdnguy Quote Link to comment
+charlenni
The short answer is no. Garmin stopped to include Wherigo players into their devices, so your new eTrax 30 wouldn't get a Wherigo player . The system of Garmins isn't open source, so it isn't possible to create a player for them. The other things work. A few days ago I published a library to workaround many of the Garmin player problems. You could find the library in another thread. Quote Link to comment
+2 Sonians
I purchased a Garmin Oregon 700 and went to use the Wherigo but was unable to find it. I contacted Garmin and they stated they no longer support this. What can I do? Quote Link to comment
Ranger Fox
I guess tugies had the iPhone 6s and you're the one with the PowerShot A1400. You might have a Galaxy S4 phone. That's about all I could find out about your situation in a couple minutes. If you have the S4, you should be able to use the WhereYouGo app to play Wherigo. If you just purchased the Oregon 700 to replace your other Oregon and don't hold any special attachment to it, you could always opt to return it. Quote Link to comment
+LyleVB
So is there some reason that all of a sudden new Wherigos aren't recognized by my Oregon 450? I used to have no problem, but in the last couple months, if I download a new cartirdge and copy it to the Wherigo folder on the Oregon, it doesn't sow up on the list of wherigos on the GPS. I will say they are only newly created cartridges and not old ones, but I haven't tried to load any old ones. Quote Link to comment

I'm familiar with the Garmin Wherigo Player having a limit to the number of cartridges it can display. Once you exceed that limit, it won't load more. My suggestion is to remove some of the cartridges from your GPSr and see if the new cartridges will show. Quote Link to comment
+LyleVB
Well that seems pretty dumb, but it worked. Thanks. Quote Link to comment

I'm going to chalk it up to a limit with the hardware. Perhaps someone did some testing with the Garmin Colorado (the first unit to feature a Wherigo Player) and they found the unit slowed when, say, thirty cartridges were displayed. They passed that on to the programmers, who could have then said, "well, we have this limit and we want to save on processing and memory, so let's store the cartridge list using a eight bit number (0xF in hex) since that'll make things easy. Yeah, that'll cap the list to sixteen, but that's fine." Who knows what went on. I just find the development of things fascinating. How did it get to be the way it is? Quote Link to comment
+Aceey
I was disappointed to find out my Garmin Oregon 650t does not allow me to play the WIG's. I don't use a smart phone so now I have to gecache with friends to find these types of geocaches. Please start to put it back into the Garmin's in the future. Aceey Quote Link to comment

I think that's a great idea, but I believe an email to Garmin would be the thing to do. Quote Link to comment
+zoothornrollo
I see that this isn't a very active forum, but I'll ask. How do I use my Garmin Oregon 700 with Wherigo (or can I)? Downloading cartridges is my big question. Quote Link to comment
Ranger Fox
I do not believe the Oregon 700 has a Wherigo player on it. You could, however, play Wherigo on a smartphone. Quote Link to comment

The only "new" Garmin unit that can play a Wherigo is the Monterra, but you'd have to download the Whereyougo app onto the unit to play it as Garmin no longer manufactures units with built in Wherigo players. The Monterra has an Android OS and also allows you to connect to WiFi. However, I believe it's now a discontinued model. Quote Link to comment
