The Geocoin Nerds v2

The Geocoin Nerds was a group project where group members could choose their nerd color and have their coins personally engraved.

I am posting to see if there is any interest in doing a second run of nerds, a trackable v2.

If you are interested in some nerds of your own, post here, or contact me at tadpole379@hotmail.com.

What would the approximate price for making them and the minimum quantity to order be?

This would be an important factor in our involvement... really would love to, just haven't been able to swing the last few group projects.

I am waiting on a quote from the mint for trackable coins, but based on the price of the nontrackable version, I would estimate probably $3.50-$4.50 per coin with a minimum order of 15-25 coins.

It is possible that we may be able to order remints on the version1s for new or returning group members, which would be more inexpensive than the version 2 coins.

I would hope that we would be able to swing this and look forward to hearing what the quote is :)

I played around a bit with the artwork because using the version 1 artwork would not leave a place for tracking and the team name engraving. With this new artwork you would be able to choose a color, personalized engraving, and there is a place for tracking information.

It seems that there is mixed interest in a trackable nerd and in the original version. Depending on the number of people interested, I would like to offer both versions for the second run. People in the first group would have first dibs on using their colors again.

I will keep this thread updated as I get more information from the mint on pricing and other details.

How many geonik characters would fit on the new art for v2? I'll be watching for more info...

The version 1 nerds were able to fit 11 characters on the engraving bar. I know it was a problem for some people because their caching names were longer than that.

I have to wait and see what the mint says, but I hope that the shape of the new art will allow at least 15 characters to fit on the engraving bar for the version 2.

I'm In...

I love the first, and if there is a chance to mint more of them, I would love it. I love the design, cost and ability to leave them in caches for others. It makes a fun Signature item for the rare cacher to find.

If the Vs 2 is tracksable, I'll still get some, just not as many as I would if they were non-trackable... which is just a cost factor. As far as changing shapre, I like the idea of making the vs 2 both looking like the first (like the Geojellys ) and the idea of changing so we can still have the cacher's name on the coin, so I'm not worried about the design change.

Either way, when we're ready, I'm in.

BTW... is there a way to re-mint vs 1 and get vs 2 underway? I am willing to do a larger number of vs 1 to help get a good cost per coin for a re-minting. If this is possable, I will still commit for vs 2

Ideally, what I would like to do is offer both versions. People would be able to order a minimum number of coins (probably 25, but thats not set in stone yet) of either the v1 or v2 or a combination of both.

Exact pricing per coin will depend on the number of coins ordered for each group. The more coins in the order, the more of a discount we get.

If there are 1000 coins of the trackables ordered then we can get a custom prefix. (The first run of version 1 nerds had a total order of about 1,700 coins) And it seems like there has been a very strong response of people who are interested, so it is a good possibility.
