+tumbleweed2
I can't get the site to let me add a photo in the Description area while I am editing the cache page. It used to work, but now does not. Quote Link to comment
+Isonzo Karst
I'm not seeing any problem. 1. Be sure you've checked The descriptions below are in HTML if you haven't checked that, I believe your HTML comments will be stripped. 2. Carefully copy the URL of the image, it needs to be complete. Below is the html I used to put an image into a cache page, I uploaded the image to the listing first. <img src="http://imgcdn.geocaching.com/cache/39f4c6e8-126b-4ccf-9162-6ceb1ca7ab11.jpg?rnd=0.8530085" /> Quote Link to comment
Moun10Bike
The form used to have a bug that allowed users to "upload" an image to the description. What it actually did was encode the image into text, creating massive listings that broke many GPS units and 3rd party software. That "feature" was then removed to prevent these issues. The form now only accepts links to images that are already uploaded to a server somewhere (either on Geocaching.com or elsewhere). Quote Link to comment

+tumbleweed2
Thanks Karst. I had tried that, just like it used to work, but it wouldn't this time. See Moun10Bike's reply for an explanation of why it wouldn't work, and what to do to make it work. Quote Link to comment

+Harry Dolphin
Thanks, Moun10Bike. That explains why it wouldn't work. I managed to find already posted photos I could use. Mostly, I post them to the cache page. Works for me. Unless I want to hide them, then missing geocoins, or archived caches work well. Quote Link to comment
+cowznofsky
I have maybe a slightly different problem. I would like to have an image as a background, like this one: http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC1YY5V_this-little-piggy-had-none Is that still possible? I don't see how to do it. Edit your cache listing and put the URL of the uploaded image in the "Background Image URL:" field. Quote Link to comment
+PreferMaps
I have the same problem. I have created and saved a cache page prior to publication. I've put the URL of the image which I uploaded into the gallery in the background image box but when I view the page it is still blank. Am I missing something obvious? I have managed it previously on some other caches but then I used the old system! I've also tried it with a link to a picture on another website but that didn't work either! Quote Link to comment

I have managed it previously on some other caches but then I used the old system! I've also tried it with a link to a picture on another website but that didn't work either! I put an incorrect url in at one point. It seemed that there were two possibilities depending on where you viewed the image. The correct one was long and non-obvious. Moving on I've had a hard time getting the image oriented. Keeps rotating when I upload it. Takes a bit of trial and error. Quote Link to comment
+PreferMaps
Finally sussed it - uploaded image to cache page, dragged the photo name up to the URL bar which shows you the imgcdn.geocaching.com.....url. Copied that to the URL box for the background image and hey presto - it worked! Long winded way of doing it though. Quote Link to comment
+slowfox
Going mad here; I can get a background image OK but cannot get a nice big photo to start off the description. When I past in the URL in the little box that opens when you upload image in Long Description it just stays as HTML...ie no photo. Any help much appreciated; here in the alps the photos are pretty important! Quote Link to comment

+slowfox
Thanks, I've had a look at the link. When I save my cache description, there is no image showing, just the URL which I've copied from my saved image in Geocaching.com. I think I'm missing something very basic somewhere? Quote Link to comment

+slowfox
Yes, I've ticked the HTML box. I've got the image as a background no problem. However, I rushed to get the caches published and so now my new problem is ....can I upload an image into the description or am I too late? Thanks again, Slowfox Quote Link to comment
+slowfox
Yes the HTML box was ticked. This is the URL I pasted in to the "Image properties" pop up box on the image section of long description http://imgcdn.geocaching.com/cache/large/286cde7f-2be6-463c-ac4d-67fbe971a596.jpg I've just set up a new cache and it worked OK. Could the problem have been that I'd saved it in an archived cache? Another question; can I upload an image to the description once the cache has been published? Many thanks for your patience with an old person! Slowfox Quote Link to comment
+Bear and Ragged
I've just set up a new cache and it worked OK. Could the problem have been that I'd saved it in an archived cache? No. (If you post a Note log, photos can be saved to the cache page. Helps to keep things together.) Another question; can I upload an image to the description once the cache has been published? Yes. (Use the Edit function.) Quote Link to comment
+slowfox
I have tried using the edit cache function but when I paste in this, all I get is exactly what I paste. ie I do not get an image http://imgcdn.geocaching.com/cache/large/286cde7f-2be6-463c-ac4d-67fbe971a596.jpg Have spent hours and hours on it now.....grrrr! Help please? Quote Link to comment

Help please? Make sure the box next to "The descriptions below are in HTML" has a checkmark in it. Then put the URL for the image inside an image tag, like this: <img src="http://imgcdn.geocaching.com/cache/large/286cde7f-2be6-463c-ac4d-67fbe971a596.jpg" /> Quote Link to comment
+slowfox
Thank you; this is what I used in the long description, when in edit cache mode with the HTML box checked as suggested but nothing changed....I'm sure I'm missing something very basic somewhere. Please help an old person!!! <img src"http://imgcdn.geocaching.com/cache/large/286cde7f-2be6-463c-ac4d-67fbe971a596.jpg" /> Quote Link to comment

+slowfox
Yabba dabba doo!!!! Now I'm cooking on gas....can't believe I missed the = sign in the previous post. Huge thanks to niraD,frinklabs and Bear and Ragged for all your help and patience. Now I can use a wet day in the alps to improve my descriptions before this weekend's event cache. Happy caching to all and thanks again. Quote Link to comment
Keystone
It's great to see helpful posts and happy cache owners in this thread. The discussion is better for the "How do I?" forum, so I am moving it out of the Website features forum. Quote Link to comment
