can't add photo to cache description

I'm not seeing any problem.

1. Be sure you've checked The descriptions below are in HTML

if you haven't checked that, I believe your HTML comments will be stripped.

2. Carefully copy the URL of the image, it needs to be complete. Below is the html I used to put an image into a cache page, I uploaded the image to the listing first.

The form used to have a bug that allowed users to "upload" an image to the description. What it actually did was encode the image into text, creating massive listings that broke many GPS units and 3rd party software. That "feature" was then removed to prevent these issues.

The form now only accepts links to images that are already uploaded to a server somewhere (either on Geocaching.com or elsewhere).

I have the same problem. I have created and saved a cache page prior to publication. I've put the URL of the image which I uploaded into the gallery in the background image box but when I view the page it is still blank. Am I missing something obvious?

I have managed it previously on some other caches but then I used the old system!

I've also tried it with a link to a picture on another website but that didn't work either! <_<

I put an incorrect url in at one point. It seemed that there were two possibilities depending on where you viewed the image. The correct one was long and non-obvious.

Moving on I've had a hard time getting the image oriented. Keeps rotating when I upload it. Takes a bit of trial and error.

Going mad here; I can get a background image OK but cannot get a nice big photo to start off the description. When I past in the URL in the little box that opens when you upload image in Long Description it just stays as HTML...ie no photo.

Any help much appreciated; here in the alps the photos are pretty important!

Yes the HTML box was ticked.

This is the URL I pasted in to the "Image properties" pop up box on the image section of long description

I've just set up a new cache and it worked OK. Could the problem have been that I'd saved it in an archived cache?

Another question; can I upload an image to the description once the cache has been published?

Many thanks for your patience with an old person!

No. (If you post a Note log, photos can be saved to the cache page. Helps to keep things together.)

Yes. (Use the Edit function.)

I have tried using the edit cache function but when I paste in this, all I get is exactly what I paste. ie I do not get an image

Have spent hours and hours on it now.....grrrr!

Help please?

Make sure the box next to "The descriptions below are in HTML" has a checkmark in it.

Then put the URL for the image inside an image tag, like this:

<img src="http://imgcdn.geocaching.com/cache/large/286cde7f-2be6-463c-ac4d-67fbe971a596.jpg" />

Yabba dabba doo!!!! Now I'm cooking on gas....can't believe I missed the = sign in the previous post. Huge thanks to niraD,frinklabs and Bear and Ragged for all your help and patience.

Now I can use a wet day in the alps to improve my descriptions before this weekend's event cache.

Happy caching to all and thanks again.
