Mapping software?

I just purchased a Dakota20 GPS unit. (I am new to geocaching.) The current maps on the Dakota are terrible, so I am looking at purchasing mapping software; Topo Canada with Basecamp or Backroad Mapbooks. There are so many choices. Which one works best for geocaching? How do I download the geocache locations to my GPS? Any help would be appreciated.

Take a look at openstreetmap.org for free maps. You can download maps to install in Basecamp/mapsource.

Also, take a look at garmin.openstreetmap.nl where you can download maps that can be copied directly to your GPS. These are also free.

Just check that details on the maps are OK for your area. I find OSM maps to be at least as good as Garmin topo maps most of the time.
