The name of the cache

Having found 164 caches (and counting), we're now thinking ahead to when we will have a cache or two of our own. Before we go too far with planning and ideas, how can I check for other caches with the same name? Clearly it wouldn't matter too much if it were on the other side of the world, but it could be nearby, and I wouldn't want to stand on anyone's toes.

Thanks.

I recently created a cache named Warden Head, having completely forgotten that the nearest cache (one which I had found previously) was already called by the same name.

I visited here and was advised to change the name - it is now Warden Head Lighthouse - because of potential confusion. As someone pointed out they would be surprised to log Warden Head as found and then have the nearest unfound show up as Warden Head.

It's not essential, but it does help to keep names different from other nearby ones. More than a few Km I wouldn't bother. Just search near where you are going to place your cache and pick a name which isn't on the list.

Ha Ha. We have ran into this as well. We made a Pokemon puzzle and called it ask your kids. Then we were informed there was another Pokemon puzzle within 15 miles with the same name. We changed it to got to cache them all. Later I seen someone post up a cache with the got to cache them all name. I have noticed cachers think alike so the name can become the same sometimes along with hiding spots and styles.
