+rosefamily77
I want to know if you could place a cache on a bouy or signal marker in a saltwater area...not sure who you'd have to contact to get permission, i thought it might be kind of neat though Quote Link to comment
+Gitchee-Gummee
I want to know if you could place a cache on a bouy or signal marker in a saltwater area...not sure who you'd have to contact to get permission, i thought it might be kind of neat though I think navigational bouys or markers are pretty much off limits. If nothing else, it would be a permission nightmare. Signal marker? I dunno. You'd certainly want to get a hold of the entity that maintains it. Coast Guard perhaps? If it is the Coast Guard........ Good Luck! Edited April 16, 2015 by Gitchee-Gummee Quote Link to comment
Keystone
Since geocaches must comply with all applicable laws, as a reviewer I would press for detailed proof of permission for a cache placement on a buoy or other aid to navigation. There are regulations concerning interference with navigational aids. Tip for an easier path towards achieving your idea: find some numbers on the buoy that can be used as a virtual stage of a multicache. When plugged into a formula on the cache page, the coordinates would lead geocachers to a nearby island or point on shore where geocaches are permitted. Make sure that the clue numbers don't show up on any photos that come up on an internet search. If it's permitted to paddle right up to the buoy, look for a stamped serial number or other very small print clue. Quote Link to comment
+WarNinjas
We have wanted to do that as well but have decided against it. Maybe look around if there is something else out there to place a cache on. Quote Link to comment
+J Grouchy
You could set it several feet below the surface like this one and watch the DNFs roll in... Quote Link to comment
+NYPaddleCacher
You could set it several feet below the surface like this one and watch the DNFs roll in... Yikes! The last thing I'd ever want to do have a cache produced logs like the ones that have been written on cache. Quote Link to comment
