Trackable Log Error

Hi,

I by mistake logged the Trackable Sue's Wunderbare Welt der TiereNo.2 Die Dogge by Mullerin Ref. # TB48G5M as a "drop" instead of a "visit". It is not in GC19J06

Since the trackable is now in another cache I do not have the tracking code. I did email Mullerin but have received no response. How do I get the tracking code for this trackable so I can update the logs?

thanks thiayack

You can return to the cache to get the tracking code from the trackable itself, or you can ask the trackable owner, or you can ask some other person who has found the trackable, who might still have the tracking code recorded somewhere.

There really aren't any other options.

I assume you wouldn't be asking if you could go back the cache you dropped it in to get the code, so

  1. Always write down the TB's tracking code.
  2. Add a note to the TB log and both cache logs explaining what you did and where the TB really is.
  3. Ask the TB owner to give you the TB code. He may not trust you, but if you've filed the logs I mention, he'll be more likely to believe you're sincere about correcting your mistake.
  4. Always write down the TB's tracking code.

Thanks, The Cache is a few hours away but I could and may go back to get the code to correct my error. I was of the hope there was another way to retrieve the code. I have left logs/notes stating my mistake at both caches. I am still a newbie to geocaching. Since logging the incorrect action I now take a photo of each trackable with Code!

I wouldn't drive a few hours away just to correct logging on a trackable.

It'll probably get straightened out with the next person (or two).

Maybe just me, but I'd log a Write Note on the trackable's page (on the Foundit? Log it! link under trackable options), in case it has further issues with another new finder.

We saw one that had a few errors by others before someone finally got it straight.

Things happen. :)

Sounds good! Don't worry about it. Mistakes happen, and this isn't really a very bad one. In fact, it's cool that you noticed since most TB log mistakes go unreported.

I agree that 2 hours is far enough away that I wouldn't go back just to retrieve the code, since it's not that big of a deal. As cerberus1 points out, it'll get straightened out soon enough, anyway, and easily now that you've left enough information for anyone that cares to figure out what happened. But if I had a good excuse to go back to that area again, I might go a little out of my way to revisit the cache to get the code. (Well, actually, if I went back, I'd probably pick up the TB and take it on another trip.)
