Find a travel bug on its goal and current location

How can I find a travel bug by its goal and by its current location?

I am new to geocaching and travel bugs.

When I leave for a holiday I want to take a travel bug to my holiday location and that match the goal of the travel bug.

Also handy to see its current location; so I can take it within acceptable distance from where I am now.

There's no easy tool for searching TBs by goal, at least not to my knowledge. There is a keyword search available, but if the place you're looking for is common enough (say, Germany) you're going to get a flood of results.

The geocoin home page shows a map of geocoins near your home location. But it's only as accurate as the cache inventory -- I recommend you check the cache page and the TB page before you go to make sure it's still there. If a TB's last log is from a year or two ago, chances are someone took it without logging it.

Oddly, the new search page doesn't display a TB icon when there are TBs listed in a cache. But the old search page still does.

You can also create a pocket query to find TBs -- there is a box check under "That (And)" for "Have Travel Bugs."

Sounds like a fun idea, but will be tough to do.

I just did a keyword search just for my goal of "pictures", then had to sort through 'em. A pain-in-the-can (for me).

You'd then have to hope a cache's inventory is accurate, and that trackable is really there.

Add in the odds of "acceptable distance from home", and it may be best to put the idea on hold, until you've done a few more locally.

There's always next year. :)
