bhuschle
I found a cache this spring that flood waters obviously left behind in an area I know well. I've been locating cache's for a couple years with my daughter, so understand the basics. In this case as I've no idea of the origin, I do not have any idea how to locate the owner or electronic log to communicate whereabouts. What's protocol? Quote Link to comment
+PnavE_81
Is the log still readable? If so, you can lookup the names of the loggers and see in their profile what caches they have found on a particular date. Quote Link to comment
+J Grouchy
Probably safe to assume it's not any cache down-river from where you found it. Quote Link to comment
bhuschle
I looked up river 70+ miles and didn't find any active/listed that fit (based on size alone as this is large). Quote Link to comment

Will try this. Yeah, triangulating this by comparing the paper logs to online finds is usually the best way. (Unless, of course, the log has the GC code, owner's name, or cache name in it, which tends to take the guesswork out of it.) Quote Link to comment
+MartyBartfast
Also there's no reason why you shouldn't post the exact place you found it, and pictures of the cache and/or logs here. Somebody might recognise it or something about it. Sometimes these sort of investigations can be fun. Quote Link to comment
+spotter/g
I had a cache get swept up in a flood. Went looking for it and found it along the trail. As I recall no too far from GZ. Then maybe a year later a really big flood took it off never to be seen again.... edit: Looked up my log, maybe this will work? https://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LUID=fea166b2-f9ba-4009-b5f8-2d9c23d63a6d&IID=edef1156-c853-447c-8905-29c2371a403f Edited May 5, 2017 by spotter/g Quote Link to comment

+WearyTraveler
I attempted to place an ammo can a while ago. I attached a length of chain to the handle and then to part of the structure it was under. I've seen other cans with cables and bike locks. I think that's a great way wo secure the cache so it doesn't float away. Obviously some miscreant could remove it, but we're discussing "Noah's" cache at the moment... Quote Link to comment
