Found washed up cache

Recommended Posts

I found a cache this spring that flood waters obviously left behind in an area I know well.

I've been locating cache's for a couple years with my daughter, so understand the basics. In this case as I've no idea of the origin, I do not have any idea how to locate the owner or electronic log to communicate whereabouts.

What's protocol?

Is the log still readable? If so, you can lookup the names of the loggers and see in their profile what caches they have found on a particular date.

Will try this.

Yeah, triangulating this by comparing the paper logs to online finds is usually the best way. (Unless, of course, the log has the GC code, owner's name, or cache name in it, which tends to take the guesswork out of it.)

I had a cache get swept up in a flood. Went looking for it and found it along the trail. As I recall no too far from GZ. Then maybe a year later a really big flood took it off never to be seen again....

edit: Looked up my log, maybe this will work?

The OP appears to be in North Dakota, so if it's your missing Ohio cache, that'd have to be quite a flood...

Almost Biblical....

I attempted to place an ammo can a while ago. I attached a length of chain to the handle and then to part of the structure it was under.

I've seen other cans with cables and bike locks.

I think that's a great way wo secure the cache so it doesn't float away. Obviously some miscreant could remove it, but we're discussing "Noah's" cache at the moment...
