Feature Request: Auto Archive Event Caches 2 months after event

I am having this issue where I am getting a whole bunch of past events from as much as 8 months ago still showing up in my PQs because they are still not archived.

A few example caches I have got in my PQs that fall into this issue are:

http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=978354f9-af09-48ff-a698-c4d7dc4cbc62 (people are logging this late for some strange reason)

What I propose is that once 2 months past on the placement date without find logs in that period (in case it's a recurring event using the same cache # that is monthly which seems to be a different issue and I really wish COs would not do that as it goes off my finds list one I attended and don't know if another one occurs, also that screws around with cache age issues going towards challenge goals) that event caches should be automatically archived. It would give reviewers breaks on them as they don't always look for them as they generally have no DNFs or Needs Maintenance Logs to flag them as trouble caches. Also sometime event organizers simply forget to archive them. I know 4 weeks is a guideline for archiving them but 2 months should be an absolute. As for Mega Events I say maybe extend the auto-archive notice by a month to 3 months.

I hope by some long shot chance this gets implemented, as pestering those past events with Needs Archived Logs seems very harsh.

I like the idea of having them archived... but why wait so long to do so? Just do it following the event date.

Archived events can still be logged after archiving, photos uploaded etc. Perhaps the only function that should be limited would be 'Will Attend' since that would be pointless. Archived does not mean LOCKED.

Also agree that recurring events would be a problem child for logging, but I thought policy was to have a new listing already.

Local to me, I see cachers posting notes, nicely worded requests to temporarily disable events, so they don't show up on PQs.

This seems to be catching on, more and more event hosts disabling their events as soon they're over, and archiving after they think everyone has logged.

Nicer than an NA request. You can email a local reviewer about long gone events that need to be archived as well.

Perhaps a hybrid? Automaticaly disable an event the day after the event date, then automatically archive the event a month or two later?

I want to voice my agreement for this idea. Knew somebody had probably suggested this before, did a search and sure enough.

Ran a pocket query today (end of July) and several events from April are still showing up. I normally try to say something directly to the Event Host via PM or maybe write a note on the cache page before putting an NA but all of that seems unnecessary. A week is more than enough time after an event for most people to get in their logs. I personally always tried to archive mine within a week or two and have never had any complaints. And since nothing restricts people from logging after archiving I would fully support 7rxc's idea of automatically archiving the next day. Geocaching searches, maps, and PQs are supposed to show cachers something than can go find. Events after the date are no longer findable so why should they be there?

And for the Event Hosts that want to keep the same GC number for multiple events (which seems wrong to me, I thought that wasn't allowed any more), they would just have to update their event date prior to the archiving time limit.
