+BBandD
So it looks like I am in the market for a new unit. After reading several post, reviews etc... I think I have it narrowed down to a Garmin and debating one of the Oregon units (600 maybe) or the GPSMAP64s or 64st. I would appreciate any thoughts on the topic from you folks and users. The only real difference I see from the specs are touch screen (obviously), screen size, memory (1.7 vs 4 vs 8 g) and topo maps or not. The S is running about $223 the ST is $309 and the 600 is $307. or should I save up a few more $ and go for something else? I am a premium member who enjoys the sport but not a die hard. Thanks in advance for your input Quote Link to comment
+dprovan
If you liked your PN-40, personally, I like the PN-60. Pretty much the same as the PN-40 but faster and uses less power. Although it's getting long in the tooth with no sign DeLorme has any interest in continuing the line. Quote Link to comment
+Timpat
The 64S for $223 is a great deal, and you'll love it. Grab the Free mapping you want. Quote Link to comment

+PeoriaBill
The 64st, at least two of mine, can quit going into mass storage mode. I use GSAK and perhaps a bad file is the root cause. To prevent this from occurring, I have started sending my .gpx files to the SD card instead of GPS memory. Seems to have fixed this pesky problem. If this happens, you won't be able to access the files on the GPS. Press and hold the up key, then press momentarily the power key. Keep holding the up key, this can take awhile. This will get you back in the mass storage mode. Take this opportunity to erase the .gpx files on the unit. Recommended then that you do a hard reset. Now just set it up to send files to the SD card and you should be OK. This may not be the solution for everyone, but it kept me from sending the GPS back to the store. Just something to keep in mind if you buy the 64st. Peoria Bill :>) Quote Link to comment
VegasSparky
I had a 5 1/2 year old PN-40 go splash screen lockup, then dead. Got a new 64s a couple days early for Valentine's Day. I love my wife. DL'ed a bunch of 24K topos, and so far, so good. Quote Link to comment
