madman1892
Just a note for the new Android owners. It is possible to play Wherigo cartridges on Android phones. You need to install "Java J2ME Runner" from the Android Market. Next, Download and install Openwig from here: http://code.google.com/p/openwig/ You will need to either get the APK file and install it with a file browser, OR use the Java J2ME Runner to point to the url for the Openwig JAD file. APK File: http://raketa.140.cz/openwig/OpenWIG.apk JAD file: http://raketa.140.cz/openwig/OpenWIG.jad It works great on my HTC Hero from Sprint, and integrates with the built in GPS. +Egnix
Thanks! I just got a Droid and was wondering about this. Quote Link to comment
+baloo&bd
With luck, maybe it will also be included in the new Droid app when GS releases it in the next month or so. Quote Link to comment
+JohnE5
I'm going to need a little more help with the install process. I downloaded the app from the market, opened the first link in the OP post and downloaded the openwig file and installed it. Opened the program and I got a really rough looking interface with "Start/GPS/options/quit" not sure what to do after that. I navigated to the apk file and it came back with an error. Where or when does the Wherigo cartridge file come in? Edited February 12, 2010 by JohnE5 Quote Link to comment
+JohnE5
Ok got it working on my own. Allow me to share. I got the J2ME from the market. Opened the .apk file from the link above. It opened as an app, so I installed it. Right after I installed it an icon in my top bar had a little android and coffee cup. It stated there is a newer verison please update. I did. Found a .gwc file in my gmail account I could down load. Opened the OpenWig app and selected the .gwc file. IT OPENED! It looks very crude! But it opens. For some reason I can not download Wherigo carts from their site. It comes in as a .aspx file that my droid cannot open. I plan on downloading to a pc and connecting the droid then placing the .gwc file in my "downloads file. Hope this helps someone else. Quote Link to comment
+JohnE5
Follow up: I got the Wherigo Demo Cart from the site and it opened just fine but when I "put on" the space suit and went outside nothing happened. It seems like the program isn't saving the information. Quote Link to comment
matejcik
did you configure your GPS? :e) Quote Link to comment
+JohnE5
Never had to configure my gps for any other programs, so no. But my main problem was the cart not saving certain actions in the game. Like putting on the space suit. I would select it and it would say I put it on now head out side, I would leave the zone and I would be told to select my space suit again. Quote Link to comment

matejcik
Never had to configure my gps for any other programs, so no.well that might be because the "other programs" are designed for Android and know where to find their GPS automagically, whereas openwig is designed for your run-of-the-mill dumbphone, which might or might not have an internal gps, so you have to tell it first.double-check the Options menu and make sure that you have Internal GPS selected. also, there are some bugs in its implementation, so it might update position slower than you would want (once every 20s or so). this will be fixed in due time, but i have no estimates now :/ But my main problem was the cart not saving certain actions in the game. Like putting on the space suit. I would select it and it would say I put it on now head out side, I would leave the zone and I would be told to select my space suit again. this sounds weird. more so, if you didn't configure GPS, you can't really leave the zone. let me tell you what -should- happen: 1. Captain tells you to put on your space suit 2. You select Space suit, then Wear 3. Captain tells you that's great and here are three items for you: Container, Candybar and Scanner 4. Now he tells you to head outside. 5. At this point, Spacesuit is not visible, but you have the three mentioned items. Also, you should see zone called "50m away" (which can be thousands of miles away, depending on where you live) 6. If you don't leave the starting zone, Captain will remind you to go out and follow the arrow. Or something. if you are seeing something wildly different, please file a bug on openwig.googlecode.com (or if you don't have Google account and don't want to register, send me a PM) and provide detailed description of what happens instead. First few words of every message is quite enough, i just need to be able to identify the dialogues you are seeing. thanks Quote Link to comment
+Cach-n-Carry
I think I need some help with this. I have the G1 with T-Mobile and i was able to download and install the java app, but i am having issues with getting the two openwig files to work. I took out my sd card and transfered the files to the card through the computer and then put the card back in the phone, but it doesn't seem to have done anything to make it work. Any thoughts? +gatoller
I have downloaded and installed the other 'Wherigo' player, but haven't had a chance to try it out yet as the nearest cartridge is 50 miles away. Search the market for 'WhereYouGo'. Quote Link to comment
