Attributes

As a reviewer, based on my experience in enforcing the use of three attributes when required by the facts of the cache, I would not like to expand my volunteer role to enforce a minimum number of attributes on all caches. A great number of reviews would take longer, and more cache submissions would never be published.

I also don't want to be in a position of deciding whether the selected attribute is legitimate or not. If Harry Dolphin wants to warn others about livestock, who am I to question his judgment? I wasn't there to see the sheep.

I just wanted to get the cache owner to at least look over the Attributes before it is sent in. I don't want to establish if the Attribute is correct and I accept that it places more work on reviewers, sure appreciate the role they fill. Thanks

Here in the subtropics, the water's always liquid so the seasonal access attributes are meaningless, in fact winter is often the best time for doing those caches that require a fair amount of exertion.

For a cache placed in an area with no hazards or restrictions, the only relevant attributes are of a "helpful hint" nature and a CO might well feel that they'd spoil the surprise element of the cache. Imposing a global restriction to solve a local problem isn't a good idea.

While I don't think mandatory attributes are necessary it might be useful if, during the submission process, there's some sort of dialog when no attributes are chosen as a reminder that the CO hasn't chosen any attributes and offering them the option to go back and do so and perhaps providing some information as to when they can be useful.

Or maybe that's already in place - it's been a while since I submitted a new cache.

Been doing this a long time and to this day, rarely ever look at attributes. Difficulty and terrain ratings are always the more important thing for me as they tell a pretty good story right off the bat. Course if the terrain rating is listed as high, then i'll usually look for an attribute which might give a suggestion of what to expect.

I've used attributes on some of our caches but not for the majority we've placed. Making them mandatory would not be something i'd long for.

I tend to use attributes more as a selection tool, e.g. if I want to go for a tree climb, or want a short/long walk, or somewhere with food nearby. It's not often I look at attributes once I'm in the field looking for a cache.
