Caching In Costa Rica

Recommended Posts

I have planned a trip to Costa Rica and need to know from the GPS / Mapping guru's out there if they know of any mapping software with maps that include Central America, either topo or routing type software. It would be great if I could find something for a pocket pc that includes these countries but could get by with something to use on a laptop. I've done some searching but haven't found anything solid and want to avoid putting together my own maps (only 20% of the roads are paved and from what I have read there is alot of inaccuracy with signing the roads). Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated.

Thanks for the replies. I'll be in Costa Rica mid-January. I'm sure if there are any geocachers there I'll be able to spot them. They will be the people looking down at thier GPSr's and walking around in circles.

I am actually dissapointed that there are only 21 caches in the entire country but they are located in places where the attractions are. I'll be traveling to San Jose, Arenal, Poaz, and Quepos, among others.

I have found some very good maps including some of the others mentioned in this thread. I've opted to use maps from Toucan Guides (Costa Rica Atlas and waterproof map). These seem to be the best maps of Costa Rica, but they are not made for GPSr's. They do have them in PDF format for pocket pc's and laptops.

I am using these maps, scanning them as JPG, and using them with GPSTuner to calibrate them and then use them as moving maps on the pocket pc.

Thanks for all of the replies. I wish everyone safe and healthy travels.
