+Raffaz
Hi all, Aint been on here for a while, definitely a good few years, just wanting to pick peoples brains Last time I was here the garmin 60csx was one of the best to have for geocaching, due to its accuracy under cover etc, im not doing as much GC these days, but I do a lot of ultra running. I would like to combine the two. However, im running into a little issue, when trying to set up a running route, the 60CSX only allows me 500 points and most of my runs are into the 1000s these days. Can anyone recommend an upgrade to my 60CSX that could handle my requirements? Much appreciated Mick Quote Link to comment

+MersonMonkeys
What about a Garmin Oregon 650? Mine is PERFECT for Geocaching, no limit on points, and is super accurate. Quote Link to comment
+Raffaz
Hi, Thanks for the reply, I seem to remember lots of people complaining about the software on the Oregon, frequent crashes etc. Have these issues been ironed out now? Also, is it a solid bit of kit? Some of the trails I run are quite rocky etc and the 60CSX has took a fair few drops without breaking, how do you think the Oregon would compare? Cheers Mick Quote Link to comment
+Walts Hunting
I had one before moving to the Montana and it was great for long hikes and a couple of drops. Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
I loved my 60CSX. I found the 62S to be a sufficient replacement. Quote Link to comment
+The Leprechauns
I loved my 60CSX. I found the 62S to be a sufficient replacement. Ditto. The 62S was a fairly short leap from the trusty 60CSX that I wore out. I'm happy to have added full paperless capabilities, easy transfer of field notes to the website, and a greater storage capacity for geocaches (5000 instead of 1000). The free, routable Open Street Maps are a welcome relief from the expensive proprietary Garmin maps. The 62S had a learning curve but it was surmountable. It can be ornery to configure and load with maps and caches, but once you get going, you're good. Watch your batteries, though. You get far less warning before the unit quits due to low batteries, compared to the 60CSX. Quote Link to comment

It was basically the same electronics but without the electronic compass as the 60CSX but had a different case (which, alledgedly floats). If i remember correctly, the early Oregons didn't have firmware problems as much as the Colorado series which came out about the same time. . Quote Link to comment
+popokiiti
I use the 62s also. Quote Link to comment
