Help.

I really want to get geocaching....

Out and about with a bit of a purpose etc.

Have now a garmin etrex 30

??How to download onto it, what to down load and getting to 1st geocache

Thought i'd be able to do it but can't...

Katie

One way to keep it simple on the first few would be to avoid the downloads, etc. Just get to the general area of the cache using the map.on the cache page, then use the GPSr to get to GZ.

It would probably be best to learn how to use your gps first.

Have you read through the owner's manual? The full manual, not the "quick start" one.

In the manual, ignore Garmin's direction to go to their website, and download your caches from Groundspeak's listings.

You can do some research by checking out the Help Center:

Help Center → Finding a Geocache

Geocaching 101

I would suggest loading a few caches into your gps, and making your first attempts with caches that are larger than micros and have been found really recently.

I would suggest leaving PQ's for later, when you are very familiar with your gps, and have found a few local caches.
