Hi all,

Just got Garmin Etrax 30 for Christmas,

Does anyone know if I can upload geocach location files to my GPS from Geocaching.com

I am in New Zealand & the opencaching.com had about 5 locations for my area I live in, but I have opencaching.com on Samsung tablet (Android) & when i bring it up there are about 60+ listed on this app.

Can't seem to work out how to or if I can use this site. Really good if you have high end Smart phone, but I don't.

Thnaks in advance,

Cheers,

Joe.

You can download geocaches to your eTrex using the Garmin Communicator plugin. If you try "Send to my GPS" it will give you more information.

Is "Send to my GPS" available to non-premium members?

To the Original Poster: Your eTrex 30 is designed to support what is called paperless caching. This means that most cache details can be loaded into the computer including the description and hint. However to use this feature you need to be a premium member which costs USD $30 per year. You can try the premium membership for free for 1 month by telling the website you have a new Garmin GPS. (link to free trial) If you are still undecided at the end of the month you can get a 3 month subscription for USD $10.

Edit to fix errant finger movements.

Depending on the Android OS version you have on your tablet and how recent your tablet is, you should also be able to download caches directly from the tablet to the eTrex30 if you purchase a OTG cable and connect the two. I have a Samsung phone and Samsung tablet, both with Kit Kat and they natively recognize the eTrex 30 and GPSMAP 64s without any special software or hacking. I have not tried 'Send to GPS' but I have used the 'GPX File' option and saved from the phone or tablet to the Garmin's SD card. I normally use my laptop to manage geocache downloads but on occasion I have used my phone when I was in the field to do so.
