Geocaching.com app question

When reading the description of a cache, in the app, I have a question about the waypoint tab.

When I go to that tab, I am able to view the GPS coordinates of the cache. Just below the coordinates are 4 icons. The first is clickable and is for directions. The second is a check mark that I am able to highlight if I click on it. When I do, a check mark will also appear next to the name of the cache. I believe the third is an editing function. And the fourth is delete.

I am not able to figure out what the purpose of the second icon is (the check mark). Would someone please fill me in. Thanks!

Oops, sorry about that...the Trial app.

I tried it, and I think I've figured it out! Don't get too accustomed to it, because the paid App does this in a completely different way. :anicute:

When navigating to a cache, you can add waypoints. There's always one waypoint, the cache location. The icons allow you to manage waypoints, so they aren't particularly useful unless there's more than one waypoint.

To select a waypoint to navigate to, you can tap the arrow (triangular icon) as you've seen, and a blue dot appears next to it.

The checkmark is a way to "check off" waypoints. Tap the checkmark circle to fill it a solid green (it's tiny, so tap accurately). That waypoint will now show on the map as a filled circle. The waypoints you haven't checkmarked remain a hollow circle, so you can see on the map and in the list, which waypoints you still need to find. For some tricky Puzzles, you may use the checkmark as a way to rule out waypoints. Or to highlight caches you'd recommend, or as some other personal reference.

In this example, I checkmarked "My Waypoint 1" (note the filled circle checkmark icon to the left of that waypoint), and I'm navigating to "My Waypoint 2", which I haven't yet checkmarked (note its hollow circle icon).
