+crochetlady
Hi, I've recently purchased a garmin Dakota 20, have found the map to be inaccurate. Says we are 28 ft a way when cache is in hand. Have been told about using talky toaster maps so found the maps and an install guide, the maps are showing ad being on my device, but didn't install when I unplugged like the guide suggested. Any ideas what I've done wrong? Quote Link to comment
dictum9
The maps that come with it are pretty inaccurate. You have to buy some 24K maps. I found them to be much more accurate than the 100K map that comes with Garmin. Quote Link to comment
+andyakashrek
On my garmin, 550t, they have to be enabled, I do not know about the 20 though. I also use Talkytoaster on my vista,i put the. Img file onto the sd card and selected a setting in maps I believe. I'm sure it has been posted here before. Quote Link to comment

You have to keep in mind that there is some position error in the cache hider's handheld when he hid the cache plus the position error in your handheld when you are finding the cache. For example, the person who hid the cache had a device that could have been accurate to about 15 feet while your device might have read 15 feet. Worst case scenario is 15 + 15 = 30 feet off. Your handheld isn't going to get you right on the target every time. Expecting the ability to set the device down on the geocache and have it read 0 feet is unrealistic. Once you get within 30 feet or so, it's time to put down the handheld and start searching. Quote Link to comment
