Not accepting frind requests

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to send a friend request to someone but it says they are not accepting friend requests. Is this an issue with privacy settings or do you have to have found a certain number of caches to have friends?

Any member can choose whether to accept friend requests or not--it's a personal choice.

There's a thread all its own.

IIRC, "friends" is/was simply a way to easily view another's profile.

Similar to the phone-a-friend (paf), where we share numbers (that I never use), around here most are actual friends, or at least acquaintances.

We have folks over, and visit others, yet none are "friended" with this site thing. :)

The reason is exactly what the message told you: the person isn't accepting "friend" requests.

That's their choice. They would have to change their profile information to find out about your "friend request" and accept it or not.

For example, you are currently not accepting "friend requests" either.

The "friend" thing doesn't do much any way. It gives you a quick link to their profile. It does not send any notifications about their activities.

I would send you a friend request, but I am in Washington. But we can still be friends.

Some people don't accept friend requests, even if they have the link on their profile. Its a personal choice whether or not they do friend requests.

Yup, that's what we've been saying...it's an option whether to accept "friend requests" or not.

If one wants to participate in this, they need to check that they themselves are accepting "friend requests".

It seems that not accepting is the default. The user needs to change that if they want to accept.

The "friend" thing quick link to their profile has been useful to me on occasion. Not a big deal, but useful. The invaluable "friend" thing feature is being able to read logs written to any specific cache, limited to ONLY those written by your "friends". If I am going to be caching with someone occasionally, I will initiate a "friend" request. If a cache has (just for example) 2000 logs written to it, finding a few specific "friends" logs can be quite a job. But you can quickly narrow that down to ONLY those logs that were written by your "friends". One of the best kept secrets in Geocaching.

I like to see what my "Friends" have wrote about their finds for certain caches and if it's got hundreds of logs, why bother reading all them

It's one of the few things I use on the website. In combination with the GM script GC little helper I can see which of my friends has been caching since last time I checked the friends page (green +XX). Just one click takes me to their list of founds.
