GC11X1F Good luck with this one!! Its more like Oakville but its a cool challenge.

If you are heading to Niagara Falls, I'd recommend GCG481 Haunted Blue Ghost Tunnel Cache. Even if you don't find the final 'cause of the snow, the site is still awesome.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. My niece and nephew are new to geocaching and are totally hooked! My daughter and I, well we are geocache addicts!!

I guess I'd have to be partial to the Blue Ghost Tunnel as well :)

Any of the caches along the Bruce Trail are awesome... great vista's and out of the way places

A good question would be WHEN are you going to visit? In 2010 I went to Ontario (back to home) for a wedding, and did a few caches during the drive... but when I got down there and did a few, I had forgotten about blackflies of early May... ouch! Point is that WHEN can be important when suggesting or doing caches. Can't suggest any, but if you ever come down to the Elk Valley give a shout!

Edit: Should have checked... see you are already there!

If you go for Blue Ghost, there's some great (and old) caches in that same area you should also check out!

What types of caches do you prefer? Hiking on trails or interesting urban hides?

We actually like both types of caches! The thing about Niagara though is we would prefer urban hides because we are mainly going to Great Wolf Lodge when we are there but the kids love to do some geocaching while we are in between swims. We went to see the Gnome's hideaway and the kids loved that one. We also try to do some earth caches as well. IN Burlington, Oakville area we have a bit more time. Today we went all around LaSalle Park.

Thanks for messaging back! Much appreciated.

LOL hey that is okay. We usually get to Ontario in August and on rare occasions like this year December. Where is Elk Valley? (is that Fernie? My cousin loves Fernie)

I really enjoyed the caches about a week ago in the Niagara Glen park, just north of Great Wolf Lodge. You can get right down to the river there (safely(

August is in mosquito season, but they are preferable to blackflies... ha!

You got it right... The Elk Valley is home to Fernie to the south, Sparwood in the middle and Elkford (home) up in the north end.

The south easterly corner of the province (almost in Alberta). Nice quiet area, but just starting to accumulate geocaches in increasing numbers. We all make the odd trip over to the Crowsnest Pass and Alberta beyond that to the east and over to Cranbrook / Kimberley and the rest of southern BC to the west and northwest. I'm actually born and raised in Toronto, but that was pre Geocaching. This is something I got into out here. Enjoy your trip... at one point I was working in Stony Creek near there.

Doug 7rxc Merry Christmas!

Doug 7rxc Merry Christmas!

I just started geocaching myself in August. I just love it. I have placed four of my own in Fort St John. I am originally from Ontario and headed out west for a teaching job. I get back to Ontario once or twice a year if I am lucky. My cousin actually lived in Fernie for a bit and he just loved it there! I hope to get to more places in the province to geocache and also into Alberta as well since we are so close!

Merry Christmas. Thanks for the messages.

Last time we were there we did a number of caches around GWL. We particularly liked Gnome's Hideaway! That was a good one. We also enjoyed doing a few of the earth caches too!

I will second the suggestion for the caches in Niagara Glen. It is a great area and very close to the Great Wolf Lodge - I've been to the lodge several times with my kids.

Before I started geocaching I had no idea that you could actually walk down into the gorge! There are stairs at the Glen that will take you down to the gorge. My favourite cache in the Glen is Niagara Gorge, as it is right along the edge of the river.

Thanks we are headed out to Niagara today to go to the lodge. I picked out a few caches to do and an earth cache. I will add that to my list!

BTW There is a blazed trail from that cache to the Whirlpool, takes you to Melinda's House cache. Which is disabled but it's there. There's a staircase that leads out of the Whirlpool and pops up not far from Gnome's Hideaway. Melinda's House is nice because you are right at the river level where the Whirlpool heads downstream. Quite the epic place to sit for a bit.

I took a walk around the Whirlpool while I was there - here's a photo from it.

Wow that river sure is moving when you are that close! Thanks for the advice! I am looking forward to finding the caches.
