+jshults (Rally Dude)
Are the INTRO APPS really helping or hurting ??? What % of people convert from INTRO to REAL app ???? If it's less than 10% then it's useless and harmful. Cache OWNERS typically HATE INTRO users and their logs. Can we have a flag to HIDE caches from INTRO users (like premium ONLY) ?????? I have so many INTRO people RUIN or TAKE caches that I'm considering ONLY publishing premium caches..... Comments ????? Quote Link to comment
+Immortal ~
Speaking from my family's point of view, we never would have gotten into Geocaching if not for the intro app. Times are tough and much like any other sport or activity, having the option to try it out without having to pay money is a good way to know if it's something you want to do on a regular basis. We all started with the intro app and as we got more involved, have gradually upgraded to the premium app. I also have a number of other friends who have just started and don't want to buy an app. just yet, but still want the chance to try things out. In the case of my dad, he doesn't go enough to justify buying the app. but still uses the intro app. whenever he comes out caching with the rest of us. Money is tight everywhere and even a few bucks can be hard to part with if you're not sure you want to do something or not and buying a GPS is an even bigger expense. I do however believe that the intro app should have more of an educational tone to them. Giving guidelines and information as people go along might remind new users of the proper etiquette behind Geocaching and could prevent at least a portion of the problems here and there. The sad fact with any activity is that people will come along and cause hardship the more popular said activity becomes and then it's a matter of powering through and continuing what you love or letting others drag you down. It can be frustrating, sure, but such is life. I think the intro app still has a good chance to evolve and make the game more fun, but only if its given a chance. Quote Link to comment
