+TriciaG
On the "classic" version of Google Maps, one could search for a set of coordinates, then click the "street view" icon to go to Street View, and still see the "pin" for the coordinate. I can't figure out how to do this in the new version of Maps: when I go to Street View, the pin disappears. Has anyone figured it out yet, or is this no longer a feature? Quote Link to comment
+Mockingbird559
I think I understand what you are asking... From gc, I click google maps. It takes a while to load but the red arrow thing shows up in map view. Then when I want to see the satellite view, (lower Left) I have to wait for the satellite view to load, then click the magnifying glass- search thing -again-, and the red arrow shows up. Then you can zoom in if you like If I want to go to the street level view, it takes a while for the blue driving path so show up but you can then drag the little gold man to where you want to go. The whole thing seems to take forever. hope that helps. Quote Link to comment
+TriciaG
But when you move the little gold man to the map and enter Street View, the red arrow disappears. That's the problem I'm having. Quote Link to comment
+J Grouchy
Yeah...one of the reasons I switched back to "classic" view. That and the fact that the "new" version was SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWW.... Quote Link to comment

+TriciaG
Classic view? Pleeeeeese tell us how to get back to that.... The only way I've seen is every time I go to Google Maps, that annoying "Take a tour!" box pops up. IIRC, there's a "go back to Classic View" link in that annoying pop up. Quote Link to comment
Keystone
As a reviewer, I look at many, many cache locations in Google Aerial view and Google Street View (to get a sense of the location) as well as the map view (which often shows parks, etc. in green, thus alerting me to make sure the cache owner has followed a permission policy when applicable). I hate the new maps and quickly switched back to Classic. If I recall correctly there was a "tools" icon (like a gear cog) towards the lower right of the screen, and when I clicked on that, it gave me the option to switch back. You then get a popup survey box where you let Google know why you are hating on the new version. Quote Link to comment
+TriciaG
So even you as a reviewer cannot find a workaround? What a bummer. Quote Link to comment
Blue Square Thing
Fwiw Opera v.12 (a web browser) can't use the new fangled google maps and so drops straight into classic view. I tend to use that for all cache mapping stuff anyway so I only have the problem should I accidentally drop into another browser. It's still downloadable from the official opera site (just look a bit further down the downloads page for a link). Seems to work fine on both PC and Mac. On the new maps I have to click the ? symbol at the bottom right of the map to drop back into Classic maps. It would be nice if there were a workaround for exactly the problem the OP describes - I work without a GPS device so google satellite and street view are essential for me. There may be something on some of the google forums perhaps. Quote Link to comment

+missionMode
I have mine switched to classic view when I go straight to Google maps but for some reason when I come from Geocaching.com it reverts back to New Google Maps. I guess it doesn't matter if we can't get the stupid PIN to show up. Quote Link to comment
+biggles1024
I have mine switched to classic view when I go straight to Google maps but for some reason when I come from Geocaching.com it reverts back to New Google Maps. I guess it doesn't matter if we can't get the stupid PIN to show up. I access google maps from a number of different places e.g. directly from my web browser (Firefox), geocaching.com and GSAK. I reverted to the Classic view at my first opportunity BUT I found I had to tell google to always show me the classic view from ALL the places that I access google maps (as above). Its a bit of a pain, but well worth it in my opinion to get back to usable google maps. Quote Link to comment
