MMaru
I'm working on getting more virtual and earth cache finds, something that I love doing because you always get to learn something new and see something cool! However, since they typically require you to contact the CO before logging, I was wondering - how long do you wait for a response from the CO before you just go ahead and log a find? I went pretty far out of my way on a recent trip for a really cool-sounding earth cache, and as much as I enjoyed the site for its own sake, I also did the extra research and hunted down the clues and would like to get the credit for the find. I e-mailed the CO about three weeks ago and never heard back with any sort of approval or disapproval. Is it okay to go ahead and log this? How long do you suggest waiting in a situation like this? +Team Microdot
As far as I'm aware you can log immediately. If the CO has any issues with your qualification they can optionally question / remove your log - but they do so they should contact you and explain why. Quote Link to comment
Walts Hunting
What's the gc number for the cache. I generally log them at the same time as I send the info regardless of the instructions on the page Quote Link to comment
Bear and Ragged
I log and send the email at the same time. Log often says "email sent" If your answer is wrong the CO can contact you and/or delete the log. If you don't feel confident of your answers, you can post a Note log, and edit/change it to a Found It or DNF later, should the CO respond. Quote Link to comment
dprovan
However, since they typically require you to contact the CO before logging... In my experience, it's very rare for a virtual or earthcache description to ask you to wait for confirmation before logging. When they do, I'm willing to wait 2 or 3 days before logging. The thinking behind a limited wait is that, first, I know I deserve the find -- otherwise, I wouldn't log it at all -- so I don't really need confirmation, and, second, if they ask me to wait for confirmation, they're making a commitment to answer quickly, so if they don't respond after a couple days, the deal's off. And as has been mentioned, worse case, if they disagree with my thinking, they can delete my find. No big deal. With most virtuals and earthcaches, where there's no request to wait, I'll send mail then log right away. Quote Link to comment
BCandMsKitty
Making you wait for a response is an additional logging requirement (ALR).... not allowed any more. If you're confident, send your answers and log the find. Quote Link to comment

MMaru
Thanks for the responses! It may have just been my assumption that you need to wait for confirmation before logging. I've gone ahead and logged my find. Quote Link to comment
