Finding the newest Geocaches

How do I find out about newly hidden geocaches besides just logging in everyday, searching by zip code then going through all the same geocaches day after day waiting for a new one? Is there a way to be alerted automatically of new geocache postings? Is there a way to sort the search results by the date hidden? Thanks for your help.

Thanks for your help. I just signed up for a premium membership. Now, when I try to create a new notification, which option do I check off from the menu if I want to be notified of the newest cache's -- "publish listing"? "enable listing?"

publish

enable implies the owner had it off for a while and is now turning it back on.

You want the "Publish" listing. That will notify you of the newest caches that have just been "published."

However, you might also want to get the "Archive" notification if you create a database in a program like GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife) from your PQs. That will prevent you from having "stale data" and looking for a cache that is no longer there.

Edit . . . too slow . . .

Yes. You need to become a premium member, and then you can sign up for instant notifications. You will receive an email when new caches are published in your area (as well as get notifications for a whole bunch of other things if you wish.

Is there a way to find about newly hidden geocaches without being a premium member?

Before we knew about notifications, almost a hundred ftfs were done by "Newest In" on our profile page.

Checked it four times a day.

Have to go to search, or your state in the US subforums now.

Before I had a premium membership, I located new caches by clicking on the link on my profile page for nearby caches I haven't found. It was easy to scroll down the page and spot newly placed caches that were close enough for me to try for an ftf. This would be harder in a very cache dense area but I found spotting unfound caches quite easy with practice.

Oh, that's much better. You can really narrow it down.

http://www.geocachin...spx?state_id=10

Too bad we can't do that for the provinces in Canada. :(

Provinces in Canada have a state_id as well. The "state_id" is just the name of the parameter that is passed in on the request. The value is what is important.

Try going here: https://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?country_id=5

Then select the province that you want and bookmark the URL when you get a response, for example here is the URL for Ontario:

https://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?state_id=69

Thanks. I have had the link to Ontario bookmarked on my browser, under the "Geocaching" tab, for quite a long time now.

That of course is going to get you a list of all the geocaches in Ontario.

The link that cerberus1 posted gives you the opportunity to narrow it down to "local city (Cities with populations over 20,000 are shown.)"

http://www.geocaching.com/local/default.aspx?state_id=10

Taking my bookmarked link, and changing the state id to 10 (Florida), you get this list:

http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?state_id=10

Yes, we can fudge around with postal codes, but it would be so much easier if we had a drop-down menu of cities.

Actually, you do NOT have to become a premium member to view newly hidden caches. You can view a map of all of the new caches in your area that have not yet been logged by clicking here and entering your country, state/providence, and county. Then, a map will pop up with all of the new caches in your area that have not yet been logged.
