Cdnsista
We are interested in starting up Geocaching. But do not have a clue how to get started. We are hoping there are events or beginner groups to help beginners like us. If anyone out there knows how we can start, we would be grateful for any help. +GoBucks32
We are interested in starting up Geocaching. But do not have a clue how to get started. We are hoping there are events or beginner groups to help beginners like us. If anyone out there knows how we can start, we would be grateful for any help. Speak soon CCA PS We are in North of London area. Broxbourne. Hello Cdnsista, glad to hear you want to get involved in Geocaching. To answer your question about groups, try looking at the discussion section on the main page of the forum for UK. There you might be able to find groups or more information about your particular area. As for getting started. You need to set your home location, you can do this on your profile. This will help doing searches in your area. Go to Geocaching.com home page. Click play menu option, then View Geocache map. This will display all the caches in your general area and you can search from there. I would look for a traditional cache with a difficulty and terrain of 1. This is the easiest cache there and look for an area you are familiar with. Then all you need is either a GPS hand held unit or smart phone with geocaching.com app (free intro version or pay version). After that you need a pen to sign log books inside the caches. This should get you started. One other thing you can do is watch videos on the Geocaching website or Youtube. Lot of good information to help you get starting in this fun hobby of Geocaching. Hope I helped you in some way. If you have any other questions. Feel free to ask. Gobucks32 Edited June 15, 2015 by GoBucks32 Quote Link to comment
+Walts Hunting
All that is good. Also search for events to attend. Tell people you are new and they will help. BTW Purchasing an alcoholic beverages for a thirsty cacher will loosen the tongue even more. Quote Link to comment
+cerberus1
Here's a link to a few events. Maybe attend one with the same good-humored, "We have no clue" and someone's bound to ask you to tag along. Quote Link to comment
+Graculus
If you use Facebook there are very active groups for geocachers in the UK. Perhaps the best one is Geocaching UK. There is a London group - Geocaching London but it isn't so active. Facebook has really taken over from the Forum which doesn't get used that much now.
