+koselig
I have a Garmin Etrex 10 and an iPhone. At present if I solve a mystery at home I can update the co-ordinates online before downloading to the Etrex. If I am out and about and solve a mystery how do I enter the new co-ordinates into the Garmin? Often I am away from home without PC access. Do I need to wait until I am in the area again? I know I can use my phone and add waypoint but thought there must be a way with the Garmin. Thanks Quote Link to comment

Scroll to the bottom of the list and click "enter next stage". You then enter the new waypoint Quote Link to comment

JayhawkSparky
I was wondering how you like the Etrex 10? I just started 2 weeks ago and am definitely ready to start the search for a handheld GPS. Quote Link to comment
+koselig
I was given the Etrex 10 as a present and grateful. However if I were buying I would probably pay a bit more and get the 20 as it has a memory card slot so you can add better maps and more caches. As a range I really like it, generally simple to use although manual that comes is rubbish. Quote Link to comment

That's why it's best to download the complete manual: This is the eTrex 10 manual. You can view it online or download it. More specific to the topic: Etrex 10/20/30 have an odd limitation that you can only have one "next stage" at a time so you will need to use waypoints if doing more than one multi at a time. Or at least I found this the hard way and haven't seen any firmware updates mentioning fixing this issue. Quote Link to comment

+colleda
the etrex 10 is an excellent entry level gpsr. if you can, spend the extra $$$ and buy the 20. Quote Link to comment

+WhiteOwl820
Im fairly new to geocaching (only 65 finds) and have an etrex10 but end up using my iphone app as the default. My specific issue with it is reading the map, however, I feel its not the device but me that is the problem. Im not a fan of the small, black and white pixel screen view but prefer the street map view with the iphone. Ive just recently discovered the iphone app has a built in compass so if Im in an area without cell service I switch over to use that instead. Additionally, to my knowledge, the etrex10 doesnt have a find feature based on your current location. Instead, you manually load the coordinates or use the very hand download option from your PC. I am planning to trade mine in at a pawn shop for a garmin nuvi type gps instead. I have downloaded the full manual for more review but any advice from a more experienced user on tips or shortcuts to more effectively use the device is appreciated. +colleda
If you get a Nuvi then leave it in the car as a vehicle navigation device. Nuvis have a short battery life, they're not waterproof and fragile if dropped. We started with a Nuvi then went to an Etrex 10, way better for finding caches. You are a Premium memeber, are you using Pocket Queries? If you are caching in a particular area you can load a PQ into the Etrex (or phone for that matter if you're going out of cell range). The Nuvi can usually get you close enough to GZ so that you don't relly need a map to search, use the compass feature on the Etrex instead. Quote Link to comment
