Size Icons On The Web Site

Sweet! Though they could use some hover text. The physical sizes are fairly obvious, but the X and the dotted outlined box threw me for a second.

For those who haven't seen them yet:

micro.gif = Micro

small.gif = Small

regular.gif = Regular

large.gif = Large

other.gif = Other

virtual.gif = Virtual

not_chosen.gif = Not Chosen

Or, for the sports-minded:

not_chosen.gif = Strike

size-spare.gif = Spare

virtual.gif = Open Frame

yeah, i had hover text as well...

my one concern... was this the result of numerous people complaining about micros v. regulars here on these threads? because i will admit, the concept of the boxes are good... but i really dont care for them at all. really. i usually go out hunting for caches without even looking at what size it is. this feature wont really help me, but rather annoy me out of my bob the builder pajamas.

Dude, get over it and move on. Seriously. If I gave you wads of cash you'd want me to sort the denominations. Just ignore them if you don't use them.

Curious, in my browser they did have hover text. At least for Micro, Regular and Not Chosen.

Cache Well

I'm guessing you're using the IE browser. IE is broken in so many ways, it's not funny.

Some browsers (like IE), which don't properly follow the standards, incorrectly show Alternate Text (which is meant to replace the image when the image can't be displayed for whatever reason) as hover text. But the ALT tag was never meant to be use used as hover text. The TITLE tag is better suited for that, and works in all current browsers.

So, no, technically there is no hover text provided, though IE is incorrectly displaying the alternate image text as hover text.

ROTFLMAO!

Wait a minute, Jeremy, is this you or has your account been hacked?

Now about those wads of cache... cash... (I'm getting very annoyed at my inability to spell that... It's a serious issue, I don't just joke about it)..... Anway, if you're giving out stuff like that, just give me dead inventors, no need to sort....

I love whatever you've done to the site, regardless of if I will use it. It shows that you're listening to what we're saying and you're trying to do something about it.

artbegotti, what the heck? :lol: I ignore gum on the sidewalk and the urinals in portapottys, but you don't see me getting nasty with the PortaJohn guys, do you?

Interesting. In my 10+ years of html I never realized there was even a title tag. You learn a new thing every day. I'll add the title tag once I return on Monday to the office.

Honestly it seems kinda redundant to have alt and title, but I'm no HTML guru guy.

You rock, dude!

Yeah, the "alt as hover text" thing is an IE aberration. I don't know about Opera, but I do know it won't display as hover text in Mozilla or Firefox. And the Mozilla/Firefox browsers now have %15 of the market. Doesn't seem like a lot, but that's double what it was in January. Watch out Bill, someone's gaining on you! :lol:

dittos, just send any my way, crumpled up in wads, out of order, i really dont care.

seriously though jeremy, you must finally have learned the secret of life and become cynical in your old age :lol:

there's a time for me to comment, and there's a time for me to learn to bite my tongue. yikes, i gonna start watchin' what i say around here... :lol:

edit: i'm an idiot for adding this in, especially after my last comment, but i honestly wouldnt mind sorting the money myself... i mean, think about it... its not like i'm gonna be spending it all right away, right?

yep. shuttin' up now.

Why do you ignore the urinals in portapotties; I'll bet that makes the portapotty guys want to "get nasty" with you! :)

Oh. Almost forgot; the new "size icons" look good.

JEREMY!!!!! YOU ARE THE BEST

next can we edit our caches tha realy are small, not micro?!?

So, are we going to be able to edit existing caches? Did I miss a reply? :lol: Just wondering...

The "small" size will be added just as soon as the developers of 3rd party software (the programs that sortout Pocket Queries) have a chance to add that type to their software.

Once that's been done, they'll take the small size live - and if you cache is bigger than a micro and smaller than regular - you'll be able to change it.

At least I think that's what he said....

SD's got it dead on. Thanks :anibad:

Jeremy,

I asked this once before in this thread, but haven’t gotten a response from you yet, so I will ask once more, politely and respectfully. Are you still thinking about adding “MICRO” to the Cache Type definitions or does adding the Size Bar Icon to the search results cover this. The reason I am asking is because of Clyde England’s stance on adding “Small” to the size choices in GSAK.

Yes, thanks. This won't break GSAK, it just means for the moment you would not be able to to a filter on size small.

They are also talking about making micro anther cache type. I want to wait for the smoke to settle on all this before I rush into any changes for GSAK.

Thanks for your attention to this question and Thanks for the Great Site.

THANKS Jeremy!!!!

The new icons ROCK!

One additional request would be if its possible at some point in the near future to add the icons to the "Map it" page for when you click on Identify.

That map feature is great because it can give very easy to see nearby caches when out on a daily hunt.

Having the size there would be great too. Thanks in advance.

Can't you remove the icons when virtual, webcam caches etc are listed?

Since they don't have a physical box, why list it as it might have a box?

There's an icon specifically meant for virtuals and webcams: virtual.gif It's a dotted outlined box to imply there's no physical box.

Cache Well

I'd say it's very unlikely that "micro" will get it's own cache type.

However - Jeremy has stated that they ARE adding a new cache size between micro and regular. They haven't added yet so people who develop third party software can add support for the new "small" size before they put it on the website.

I'd think if I was a developer I'd add support for the new size and be glad they warned me about the change.

That's the whole point, Clyde is going to include the size containe of small eventually, but is waiting to hear that he has/doesn't have to implement a new cache type also. As Jeremy is delaying implementing the "Small" container size, to give developers time to implement it, and Clyde is waiting to implement it until Jeremy makes the decision about the "Micro Type" public, we have an impasse with GSAK.

I just want to see this implemented both on the website and in GSAK within a reasonable time.

Cool. I was on my soapbox in another thread, and completely missed this one.

Thanks Jeremy for fixing the tooltips! Any chance of you modifiying the 'cache type' icons to include the "title" attribute too? Those icons baffled me as a new user (course I know them now, but it's helpful for new users who also prefer Mozilla).

Thanks again.

If you go back and read all of the threads about this - you'll see that Jeremy does not beleive that Micros warrant their own type. He's also commented that 50% in the poll is not anywhere near enough to think that the "masses" think that micro is a seperate type either.

If I was a betting man, I'd say micros aren't getting a cache type anytime soon, if every.

The new size will go in wether GSAK has that in or not... might as well put it in.

I figured Opera wouldn't display alt text as hover text. Like Mozilla, it's a highly compliant browser.

Why doesn't someone create a browser called Oprah? It would convert every web page into a nice little life-lesson, and encourage people to read mediocre books. And the size of the executable file would continually fluctuate on your hard drive. :laughing:

Everything seems to be working great for me on Firefox. The hover text and everything. The new icons seem to be a great addition. (I like the directional compass icons). Thanks for all the hard work.

Title tags have been added! Works great! I like that you can tell how many t-bugs are in a cache without opening the cache page.
