Deleted 'Discovered' Logs

I've recently had a 'discovered' log deleted without warning from a TB I saw recently at an event. I must admit that on close reading of the bug description it does ask for it not to be discovered at events... No explanation is given for this and it is allowed to be logged into events.

I just wondered if anyone here has come across this elsewhere?

Everyone's logs for these three Gems were deleted a few months ago

They were displayed for discovering at an Event in March 2009 but the original owner later sold them by the looks of it and the new owner deleted all the logs

Bummer. Some people want to re-write history - or at least erase it. I wonder if this need to control what others post on a TB log smells a bit like control-freakishness to anyone else? <_<

It is free to delete logs on the travelbugs. Besides, why would a travelbug owner see all this spam? The meaning of a travel bug is travelling.

Then why did Groundspeak bring in the Discover option if it's just spam? I handled the TB maybe I should have taken it and dropped it back into the event just like the good old days... <_<

The law of unintended consequences I guess. I believe the feature to Discover Trackables was added after many, many requests from the Users. Just another case of Groundspeak listening to its customer base, and nobody liking it.

I am on of the cachers who loves the option. To say something nice to a fellow cacher after a meet and greet and having seen a geocoin or something. But it has evolved in a spamming service. I have received 6300 discover logs on my travelbugs and they only spoil my mail. Why should I like this spam? I haven't sent out travel bugs in the world for this.

I hear what you say but you must be very lucky, of the 81 bugs I have released only three original ones are still travelling... maybe it's just me that's unlucky :(

If I recall correctly what I've read, it was originally put as an option for finding a TB in a cache. If a cacher sees it in the cache, they can "Discover" it and say that it's still in the cache but that they didn't want to move it on. It's a great service for those whose TBs languish in caches. Nowadays most of the listed TBs aren't in the cache, so confirmation that one IS in the cache is nice for the TB owner.

Enter Touchstone's law of unintended consequences. Now people pass around lists of TB codes for others to "discover" at events - sometimes handling the TB themselves, sometimes not.
