Brdwygurl
I want to take a group of teenagers geocaching tomorrow, and paying $30 each for a premium membership is ridiculous and out of the question. The caches we want to find don't show up on the free app So, I understand I can see all the geocaches through my Safari browser on my phone. It seems like I need to somehow get the coordinates into a GPS app.( there is no way to navigate to the geocache using the website). Is that correct? Is there a way to easily copy or import the coordinates? When I saw that the old app was gone and tried the new one (which Is really confusing), and then saw you have to pay to do almost anything, I was ready to cancel the whole thing. But I know they're looking forward to it. Trying to figure out the easiest and most straightforward way to do this. Thanks for any suggestions! Quote Link to comment
+Pouty7
I am quite new to all this myself. So i am not sure if this helps. I am a premium user now and dont recall if you have access to Lists under Basic. If you do. You can save the caches onto your own custom made lists &then import them onto your gps device. I have a Garmin etrex & use the Garmin Express software to import. There are probably other methods, but being a newbie to all things GPS.. Maybe someone better qualified could give you some answers? +niraD
When I've helped introduce newbies to geocaching (especially youth), I've usually avoided the technology completely. The group uses a single device that has been preloaded with data. At the first cache, an experienced geocacher uses the device and announces where the device says GZ is. Everyone searches based on that GZ. After a couple caches, I might let one of the newbies follow the arrow on the device. But even then, someone experienced is usually helping push the buttons to get the device to point to the next cache. If they like the basic game, then they can sort out the technology, and they'll be motivated to do so. Until then, I don't want the technology to get in the way of showing them the basic game.
