What Part of San Diego are you going to be staying in?

I'm staying at the Sheraton on Harbor Island Drive. MapQuest shows it to be just south of the Airport. (and TopoZone gives approximate coord's at N 32.7261 W 117.1957)

You'll have a cache or two in your backyard, then. Alas, caches on the island itself tend to get plundered (I am truly amazed that "oops, I did it again" has survived as long as it has!).

Hi all. I just wanted to post a quick note letting everyone know that there is a new geocaching site up for the Southern California area. It is designed to compliment geocaching.com and be a place where SoCal cachers can exhange ideas, news items and stories about geocaching in the SoCal region.

We're just getting started, but I wanted to invite you all to come check it out. If anyone has anything to add to the site, please let me know. We're always looking for fellow SoCal geocachers opinions, experiences and stories!

You can find the site at: http://www.scgeocachers.org

Thanks!

I just had to comment on the cool name...

MICROWAVE ANTS

I immediatly got a vision of me struggling up a long trail toting a microwave with a long orange electrical cord trailing behind me causing Gromit to trip every once in a while.

If Wyle E. Coyote could afford all that ACME stuff... Why didn't he just buy DINNER?

Jeremy has made a country wide suggestion in the General Forum.

His idea is to have many local event caches where we would get together and volunteer to clean up one particular park. It would be great press and even a lot of fun.

I was wondering if anybody would be interested in doing this. Earth Day is April 22. A Tuesday. Probally best to do it the weekend before.

Does anybody want to make a suggestion as to which park in San Diego needs the help the most. I was originally thinking about Mission Trails because of some recent complaining about cache locations inside the park. Doing volunteer work there might be a good Idea to help smooth over some of the public relations there. Also because it is such a large and central park to San Diego County. Also it has a very large number of caches there. However, size would be the downside of Mission Trails. If we want to do it there, we could contact them and let them know what we were going to do. Maybe they could suggest a certain part of the park that we could concentrate on.

I was also thinking of contaction some type of enviornmental group like "I Love a Clean San Diego" to see if there were any types of programs that my be able to help out with things such as Trash Hauling.

We may also want to contact the press and get a little bit of news coverage on the subject.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

I will add a link to the Forum that Jeremy suggested it in when I can figure out why my UBBCode is not working. Until then you should be able to find it on the General Forum. First Message.

Please add your feedback

Parsa, Grizzlee, Vagabond, Sharkie, and Anybody that had not been able to log the Buffalo Gals Mission Trails cache due to the bees, I have good news for you.

I e-mailed the cache owners and she has agreed to update the coordinates with new ones that I will e-mail her. I will go out this weekend, or early next week and move the cache a few hundred feet up the trail.

So, If you were forced to log a DNF or an archival suggestion, and if that cache is just sitting on the top of your nearest cache list and you are tired of looking at it, just stand by for a little bit longer and I will be able to help you out.

Hello. I'm a trying to make a little video on caching in SD for a portfolio piece to aid me in my next job search (I do educational media production). I'm going to go caching myself in bankers hill this weekend, but I was wondering if there are any experienced cachers who would mind me tagging along with a DV camera on their next trip?

The Buffalo Gals cache has been updated. I posted it here in case somebody that wanted to get it was not watching the page.

Hopefully the wildlife in the area will leave us alone and let us play our game dangit icon_biggrin.gif

Now go out and get it

Maybe they're busy caching...the fools! Bwaahaahaa. Me, well I don't have time to cache. I just like to sit in front of my computer! But seriously, I have no idea.

In unrelated news, I was quite pleased to see that the forum software has been changed and now I can go right to the current page in the San Diego thread.

Most local cachers probably are unaware that there is a San Diego Tread. Maybe if we started posting a link to the forum on or cache pages others will get the idea. That is how I found out about the tread.

Those two threads have been around longer than our thread. They were both started in May 2002. Night Hunter started this one December 2002.

Or maybe there is a shortage of words down here because somebody is using them all in his logs?

I have a link on all my hidden caches, (of course 7 out of the 600 something doesn't amount to much.) I also put a small tag line after my logs, so I like to think that the word is spreading at least a little.

I also think that some local cachers don't even know there are forums.

Yrium, Yes, Please do save a few words and phrases for the rest of us.....

I also had to laugh at Yurim's comments. The old story of a pic is a thousand words is reversed. a thousand words is a thought. I do enjoy reading his comments.

I just added the link to my one or one cache.

I have noticed that every time I access The San Diego Forum that the oldest messages are listed 1st and I have to go to the last page to get the current msgs. Wouldn't it be better to have the newest msgs first. That way someone coming for the first time doesn't think the topic is unused. I am assuming that it is a creation option and not a user option. If it is a user option let me know. I could not see where I could change it.

I don't think it is an option at all. When I started the thread, I had all the same options I did when I was replying. I just think that is the way that the boards are set up. I have the thread set up on instant e-mail notification so I don't really go to the thread anymore unless i want to read older threads. And I guess if you are new to the thread you may want to read the ones that led up to now, but then again, who wants to sit and read about when we are going to have the picnic we alread had. That may be a good thing to bring up in the General section ( the one for suggestions and ideas.) Maybe on the next change they could make that an option.

Sharkie,

If you go to the top of this page you'll see some green tabs across the top. Click on the NOTIFY tab then the underlined word 'add notify' that pops up. This will bring up a new window which has as one of its options

immediate Notification by email

If you don't see these options you probably need to register/sign on and they will appear.

--- yrium ---

Link to comment

You will have to select the Notify option for each thread you want to monitor. Ie. San Diego Thread is one. General could be one, SouthWest and West might be another. So you need to decide which ones you want notification on. You can also monitor individuals.

I just got back from doing the SAN MARCOS SURPRISE cache where I dropped off a card that I hope some geocachers would take the time to sign. Recently I heard thru the Grapevine that Mark71mark and Anji had gotten married! So I bought one of those cheesy 'congratulations on your marriage' type cards and signed it. I hope you'll join me in wishing them wedded bliss and add your signature to the card. I figured if I put it in a new cache we'd get more signatures. After its been there awhile maybe someone could grab it and move it to another fresher cache. After its been out and about for a couple of months Mark and Anji can go fetch it.

I have a watch set for the SAN MARCOS SURPRISE cache so when someone takes it to move it I'll contact the geocacher and after its placed again I'll leave a message on this thread.

I also helped out at the event. It was a lot of fun to watch a bunch of nongeocachers compete to find caches with a short time limit. It was also good to see BikeDog and some of the other SD geocaching regulars.

Congratulations to Gecko Dad on being the first local geocacher to collect all twenty cards in the first line of YRIUM'S PALs geocaching trading cards. Three trys, one in a sodden rainstorm is true perseverance. See his log at the REBUS MONKEY cache.

I expect you to email me a photo of you holding all the cards in your hand 'fanned out' like a poker hand so I can start another exclusive line of cards called 'yrium's fans'. icon_smile.gif

I sent a package of 20 cards to Jeremy as a sort of payback for all the enjoyment I've received from his website. No word back yet on how he liked his card.

Yrium,

I've been thinking about the problem of visiting caches with Gromit that have restrictions on dogs. Perhaps someone with sewing skills could make him a coyote costume to wear. Then if someone says, "Excuse me, but no dogs are allowed in this area", you could just say,

"Dog? What dog? Oh him? He's not my dog. That's a coyote."

They might say, "Coyote? That's not a bloody coyote."

"Oh, yes it is! He's a rather fat one though, isn't he. Good thing he's on the top of the food chain."

"Whoever heard of a fat coyote?"

"Well, you've seen one now, haven't you?"

All the while Gromit is grinning with a big doggie smile under his mask...

Be on the look out for this bug. It's a canon ball run racer and it needs to be detoured. I have a bug in the race so I can't do it myself. But do you really want a NON California bug to win the race.

Take the bug and place it in a far far far off cache. Deep in the woods where few dare to tread.

Thanks

george

Looks like it's being hand carried across the finish line. So this may take more than detouring... Feel free to invite Clayjar out for diner or something. Then, when they're not looking, search their Geo-bags and grab that darn bug! Or lay out the tack strips as they pass by. Just do something!! California can't loose like this! icon_wink.gif
