Using my geocaching gpx files on my Garmin Oregon 600

Hi all,

 

I purchased a Garmin Oregon 600 from REI. I was able to download gpx files from Geocaching.com. I have confirmed they are on my gps and in my gpx file via my desktop computer. I can't seem to get them to show up when I attempt to use the geocaching function on my gps. I am not sure what I am doing wrong, any ideas anyone?

I've read the Garmin will still only show those caches within 100km of your position - have you tried with local caches?

Did you put the file in the right folder?

Do you have any filters set?

How far away are these caches?

The most common "offense" when this question comes up is that the loaded caches are too far from your current location.

 

They are present in the device, but will not show on-screen until either:

•you are closer, or

•you pan the screen (map) to their location.

 

Added to that, you cannot see them while zoomed wide, you need to be zoomed in somewhat close.

For seeing them on the map, Setup -> Map -> Zoom Levels -> Geocaches and crank it up to whatever value you want.

How did you load them onto the Garmin? Did you simply copy them or did you use a program on you PC?

Thanks to all those who replied. I did commit the most common offense! I am in Washington and was loading caches in Utah....to far. Loaded a local one, no problem! Thanks again!
