Multicaching?

Hi! I have this idea for a cache, that requires the geocacher to find the tool for extracting the log first, then to look for the actual cache. I plan to make the coordinates for both visible, so that you can find either one first. Is that considered a multi-cache? Or does a multi-cache need to be all about finding the coordinates in each stage?

That's a multicache.

 

Tip: make sure that the location of the tool is on the way back to parking after the geocacher finds the final cache. This increases the likelihood that people will return the tool. Depending on what type of tool is needed, consider stocking more than one tool in the first stage, so that you won't need to stock a replacement as often.

There have been several of these in the past and as Keystone alludes to many of the owners ccome here to complain that the tools don't get returned. You could make the second one with a combo lock and the combo is in the first. Going out of the way to return the secret opener is going to cause you problems.

If you want, you could also somehow put the tool with the cache itself. I've encountered a few like this (GC2M6D6 and GC4888X come to mind first). In any case, caches which use a tool for extraction or retrieval are always fun IMO!
