Coin 'turns up' after 8 years

Hi,wonder if anyone has experienced this.

My geo coin was released in 2006,it hopped around the uk for near on a year before ending up in the Netherlands in 2007...

From there the trail went cold it seemed to me that the coin was either lost or stolen...

Fast forward to present day and it appears to have be 'discovered' at an event in the Czech Republic last month, quite away away from there it was last seen..

It's been absent for near on 8 year neither sight nor sound..

Strange thing is out of all off the attendees (25+) of said event only 3 cachers have 'discovered'the coin...

Can someone confirm that the only way to log a coin of Tb you have to have the tracking code/number..

I have messaged the 3 discoverers of said coin to ask if they have seen the coin for real, one has came back to me asking for the tracking code.....why I wonder ..

Sure is a bit strange..

Tracking numbers are shared through various means and on various places.

There are methods of finding trackable codes that don't involve actually seeing or touching the trackable.

All those recent "discover" logs are 99.998% probably fake.

I find that quite weired really that cachers go and discover items that they really haven't found...each to there own I suppose.

Either you are very lucky, or someone got the code with a random number generator or similar. :)

I live in hope that the coin does still exist,my first thought was that someone must have had it possibly in the bottom of there bag(for 8 years)... since then I've had a reality check with myself..

I will await, others may indeed log the coin from the event, just as a point the coin isn't present In the event Inventory...

One of my TB's has turned up after being missing since 28.12.2008.

Here is the log:

Discovered It 27.07.2015 Dub525 discovered it

Viděn v galerii cashe na Malte.

No idea what the text it.

"Viděn v galerii cashe na Malte" translates to "Seen in the gallery cash in Malta". Perhaps "cash in Malta" refers to a particular Geocache, I can't tell. But often, when people "Discover" a trackable in "the gallery", they are telling you they saw a picture of the tag with the tracking number in view.

My "Quacker Box" TB was "Discovered" two years after it vanished, with no photo, no evidence that it was in fact seen by the cacher. The text for the Discovery log translates to "Once seen at an event but can not remember where or when". That log will become true when dragons fly.

At Events, I take photos of each Trackable I discover. A photo of the TB without the tracking number in view (for posting in the Discover log) often posed in a fun way to highlight its visit to the Event, and also a photo of the tracking number, for my records (so there's no issue with "writing it down wrong"). If any of those were turning up for the first time in 8 years, that would be a big deal. It would deserve a whole lot more than just some text like "I probably saw this someplace". B)

Interesting situation. Did a little searching ...

The coin was 'discovered' by 3 people who attended the same event 6/27/15 in the Czech Republic. They do not seen to be otherwise related.

The coin was never in the 6/27 event inventory.

The cacher who 'dropped' the coin (Dreefhelden) on 2/27/07 never logged the cache he claimed to have dropped it in. On 3/3/07 the next cacher to visit the 'drop' site made a log note that your coin was not in the cache.

Dreefhelden was not an attendee at the 6/27/15 event either. He was, however, caching in the Netherlands in 2007 but has only logged 250 total caches in 10 years.

'Why' did one of the three discoverers ask about the tracking code? A guess here ... when we discover trackables, we have a notebook where we make a note of the tracking ID, and occasionally where/how we saw it. The order it might appear on a notebook page might also tell the discoverer who had the coin when he saw it. It sure can't hurt to send him the number --- he already logged it.

Since all 3 discovered it at the same event and they seem to be long time cachers, these are not 'virtual' logs.

HMmmmm ....

Most probable solution: One of the three made a list of trackables he saw. He made a mistake so he wrote a code of a long lost coin instead of the real one. Two other guys photographed his list making the mistake reduplicate.

Cool analysis! The ratio of "Discoveries" is about the same at an even in my local area. Most people in an Event don't log any TB, even if they request to see the tracking number, while some are extremely late doing so.

Since all 3 discovered it at the same event and they seem to be long time cachers, these are not 'virtual' logs.

It's plausible that the coin is in a box or binder marked "Discover Only" and was shown at the Event. But it's discouraging that such cachers don't mention nor seem to notice that a coin has reappeared like a miracle -- that they are so apathetic about that fact, yet were so interested to acquire the coin icon. It would be good if they were to post a clue in the Discover logs, like a leetle note "So I wonder if I got the number wrong", or "Congratulations on this coin turning up, that [cacher name] is protecting so well for you!"

I'd again suggest that, as soon as any trackable seems to have gone astray, something be posted on the trackable's page, long before you mark it Missing. See Quacker Box for some ideas. Maybe when the TB number is mistyped, or when it's discovered in a binder, that's when a TB page might be seen, and the additional info may help.

I just found a coin in the wild last month that had been missing from june '07 to may of this year. contacted the owner and due to the limited amount of it traveling, I will be taking the coin on vacation with me to give it some miles and pictures before giving it back sometime in September, or whenever I can make it to an event where they live.

live in dreams people it really does happen. now if only all mine would come back to life the same way...

I recently stumbled upon a group of coins in a cache. There weren't supposed to be any coins in that cache, so I took them home to see if I could fix whatever mistake had been made. I was stunned when I realized that 2 of them had not been logged since 2008, 3 of them had not been logged since 2011, and 1 had not been logged since 2013. I've heard from 2 of the coin owners since I logged them and they were stunned that they showed up after so long, too!

It could well be a typo,I have just substituted one letter in the tracking code in the Tb search and it throws up another coin.

I have been in contact again with the discovers of my coin with relevant information relating to said item....

Maybe it's just me wishfull thinking that my coin is alive and well..

Judging by the last 2 postings that there is a glimmer of hope....miracles do happen
