New Geocaching YouTube Channel

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I’m Ryan a 21 year-old from the UK. I am currently at university in Scotland studying Management with honours and I am going into my final year and about to do my dissertation (Scary). I moved to Scotland around 3 years ago as I am originally from Manchester (which might be able to tell from the videos haha).

My hobbies included carp fishing which I enjoy doing when I go back to Manchester. Another hobby I have is Geocaching which I love doing as it gets you seeing local areas and you get to see places which you might have not seen. I got into Geocaching around 7 months ago and have loved doing it ever since especially when we get the weather in the UK.

Thanks for reading,

Ryan (GeoTechRyan)

What will you show in your videos?

Hunting and finding geocaches?

If so, please get permission from the Owner of every cache you chase before you document, post and show the world how to find their cache.

And, please don't go after mine.

+1

Same questions, same statements (especially the bolded).

We've seen so many thinking they're gonna make something outta this hobby, and most simply degrade into spoiler videos.

I'm very new to this hobby but I gotta agree with the replies. Everyone gets excited when they find a new 'thing' so to want to start a channel is you being exuberant - which is cool - but as the guys have pointed out there's a good chance you'll run out of steam on this project when you start realising it's an extra burden on top of the actual caching itself also the spoiler side of things is a worry - making an entire channel is a huge undertaking and to fill that with GC stuff would be very hard without showing locations/contents etc and what would you add week after week?.."Here's me walking through another field..."

I think a better approach would be one show that could highlight points that are more important to get out to the new members (maybe old one's too)..Etiquette of what to do and not do, the well used abbreviations that noobs need to learn, where you can and can't go, what to expect when you start the hobby, what gear to buy once you've established it's a hobby you're gonna stick with. IMO one well made 20 min video would be a much better way to get your voice heard and would test the water to see if you have what it takes to get the views and enquiries to another show and maybe go from there.

TBH the kinda people that really care about caching really aren't that into Facebook, forums, Youtube etc..they're outside right now up to their armpits in ivy and nettles :)

I'll add my +1 to that.

I suspect the main reason here is that the OP wants to make videos and have a channel, and has decided caching would be a topic to pick on, rather than that a delight in (and deep knowledge of) caching has produced the urge to share the fun in film form.

I'd suggest it would be better to pick a topic you know in depth. Carp fishing maybe ? Or, er, management ? Bet that'll get folks clicking through ...
