04HarleyGuy
I am attempting to set up my new Explorist GC and it gets as far as Magellen Communicator installed. According to page 30 of owner's manual the next step is to click on Download button. There are two buttons side by side Check Device and Download. Check Device is active Download is not. There are caches loaded in to the device, but the nearest one is 48 miles away, and I know the nearest one to me is 2 miles from my house. Quote Link to comment
+T.D.M.22
First thing you do is delete all-ALL-caches and waypoints. Who knows when they where put on? Two, maybe three years ago? Those caches may not even be there, and all info is out of date on them. Select check device and see what happens. And make sure you have Magellan selected, as opposed to Garmin, or whatever else there is. If you still have issues, there have been some problems. A Quick browse through the forums should bring up others with similar problems and solutions. Quote Link to comment
+bpcooper14
One thing that may be hallowing is am issue with the browser you are using. Magellan communicator can be finicky and doesn't always play nice. I was able to get it working with Firefox and my explorist. others have had luck with using chrome. IE apparently had never worked but I rarely use it so no experience myself. Quote Link to comment

+bpcooper14
Maybe it is just my computer (or W 8.1) and the fact that I only fiddled with it for a short while before moving on. That, and I never have looked into the settings that can be modified in IE that I have heard make the 2 play more friendly. Quote Link to comment
+keylev
I have a GC and simply run a pocket query (which you can being a premium member). When its ready to download plug your GC into your computer open the download and drag the gpx file to the one called Geocaches and the waypoints file to the Waypoints file et voila you are out the door and on your way... This is true - you ONLY need the communicator to download one cache at a time. If you're doing a bunch (and can run PQ's, which the OP can as a Premium Member) you can move them over manually in one or two files. (Two if any of them have waypoints that you care about.) It isn't used when you upload your Field Notes, either. Sometimes, I want to grab specific caches and not just everything that a PQ will snatch up. If I'm in a cache-rich area, and I only want those ten or twelve over there, I create a Bookmark List called "Todays Caches", add the ones I want one at a time, then run a PQ on that Bookmark List. (Then delete it.) So, OP, if you don't get it working, it's inconvenient, but not by much. Quote Link to comment

That will take care of the finickiness. Edited February 15, 2014 by TexasGal1 Quote Link to comment
