yesterday I had my first Caches with a mystery for geo-coordinates. I solved the mystery, but then I didn't knew what to do with this coordinates... I saw that there are alot of different formats and Standards common for geo-coordinates? without to know the reference System, the coordinate Format, a convertion program and an app (android) to guide me to this coordinates I don't know how to find it?

Please help me, I am shure it is not as complicated as it Looks for me atm?

regards, Daniel

Usually, as they are written on the page eg N 47° xx.xxx E 008° xx.xxx is how they are written to you device, otherwise known as Degrees and decimal minutes (HDDD° MM.MMM)

Beware! Sometimes, especially in a Puzzle/Unknown cache, other systems may be used!

Worth a read www.follow-the-arrow.co.uk/resources/gps.html#coords for different settings and formats.

You need to tell us what it is you are using to find caches. Gps or app?

There is a free, Introductory app from Groundspeak. There is also a "Pro" (paid) app, for $9.99.

Here's the Help Center section about caching with apps, with separate sections for Android apps:

http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.book&id=12

You are looking to be able to "create an Additional Waypoint" for finding multicaches and puzzles, or to enter new coordinates for whatever reason.

The coordinate format that Groundspeak uses is explained here:

Help Center → Other → Conversions

http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=208

1.3. WGS-84 and HDD(D)° MM.MMM Datum and Format

Why do we use WGS-84 and HDD(D)° MM.MMM Datum and Format?

Most GPS receivers are set coming out of the box with WGS-84 and HDD(D)° MM.MMM Datum and Format. Using this setting will be less likely to confuse new GPS owners.

The published coordinates at the top of the cache page will be in that format. You shouldn't need to convert anything, unless it's a very tricky puzzle. Hopefully, the cache owner would let you know that the puzzle involves alternate coordinate formats.

Hi

I am using the Groundspeak app, pro Version, for geocaching. 2 days ago I found an android app called GPS essentials. With this app it was possible to enter coordinates in decimal System and I found my first mystery Cache! I am very happy! :-)

but i realised that I have to buy a gps device for Caching, especialy in the Wood, the cellular gps Receiver is not so good...

thank you for all this Posts and help!

regards, daniel
