uploaded to SD topo 24k usa not showing in Oregon 750t

I have the Oregon 750t (topo Canada 100k) I purchased topo USA 24k North East. First I thought Garmin would allow the use of Garmin Express to upload the map but I still need the outdated Internet Explorer plugin (I don't usually use IE on Windows 10) I had to download the map with the communicator plugin directly to the GPS (64GB SD card) it worked.

From Basecamp I can see the map (topo usa 24k) but the map is not visible in the GPS, no matter the zoom. It's not even listed in the maps.

I thought the 750t would be better than the 650 and earlier models when it comes to manage maps on SD (birdseye can't be uploaded on any SD card as far as I know which is a weird limitation) unfortunately it's not.

I guess I missed something. I followed the instruction to the letter.

Any advice is welcomed

Thank you

Birdeye imagery can be uploaded to SD cards using BaseCamp. You just have to right click on the Imagery file and select Send To. Then select where you want to send the file.

When you are creating your Birdseye file, do not check the box for "Copy imagery file to device after download"

That is probably what you are doing. That method will always send the file to your device and not give you an option to send to an SD card.

Thanks Scott,

Ok for birdseye now I know thanks to you.

But I still have trouble to see the topo map (usa 24k north east) I know it's on the SD card. The map is shown is Basecamp but not on the Oregon.

The only way to download the map from Garmin is to download it directly to the SD card installed in the Oregon. Garmin doesn't allow to download the map on my PC. So it should be working. It's weird and very frustrating because I bought the 750t to avoid such a problem because I thought everything could be done through wifi or from garmin Express.

One more thing (and I had the same issue with the Oregon 650, 550) if I upload waypoints, tracks, routes on the SD card I can't see it in the Oregon. If I upload the same waypoints, tracks on the device storage I can see it.

I will try with another SD card (I'm using 64GB I'll try with 32GB) But it's very frustrating so far. I got the 750 to simplify everything, including geocaching.

Thanks again

BaseCamp reads the SD card and allows the map to be shown in BaseCamp when your GPS is plugged in to USB.

Seems like the map was correctly installed on the SD card. But you aren't seeing the map on your gps when you go into Setup/Map/Configure Maps.

Is that correct?

Note: I have the Oregon 650, so the 750 menu maybe different.

The computer (and Basecamp) will happily read the card if formatted in exFAT, but the GPS will not, thus why you need to check.

The SD is 64GB it can't be formatted in FAT32. I just formatted a 32GB in FAT32 I'm downloading the map. I'll let you know if it works. I think it will.

Thank you very much for your help.

I have a vivosmart. it's much more easier to work with. Basecamp is a very good software but outdated. The process of downloading maps with IE is even more outdated. I guess less people use Handheld GPS. Garmin doesn't spend a lot of time developing new technologies for the Handheld GPS series as many people are using their smartphone to hike or geocaching.

Thanks again Red and Scott

It is possible to format a 64 GB in FAT32. You just have to use a 3rd party program. Windows built in formatter won't do it. That said, there is not really much point to 64 GB as each map file can't be larger than 4 GB and other stuff does not take up a lot of room.

Thanks Everyone it worked perfectly. The SD card was formatted in exfat. I didn't try to format the 64GB in FAT but formatting another one 32GB in FAT did the job.

And thanks Scott for birdseye I can now have birdseye imagery on the SD topo 24K North East and I will upload birdseye imagery on another SD card for topo Canada.

I used the Oregon 750t in the Adirondacks. But I was not really used to it. Besides I uploaded the full track of Big Slide mountain I found in Adventures and a lot of geocaches. Unfortunately we had to pick another mountain (Giant) because the parking was full.

Even if it's easy to work with at one point we were walking and talking my little daughter and me so I didn't look around. All of a sudden we were no longer on the trail, the clouds were rolling out of nowhere, it was dark. I think I understand how people can get lost even when they're hiking on trails.

Unfortunately the friend we were hking with and his kids was so anxious to get the summit fast (hiking is racing for some people but my little one likes to take her time, observing the nature around, geocaching when we can) I didn't enter a waypoint at the beginning of the trail.

Nothing to panic about at this point because I could have found my way back I think. I took a moment to show her how to use backtrack. But it was a little confusing because I had 2 tracks for a reason or another. Of course I used the latest one. The map was now showing up, I didn't know why. I figured something out.

However, I'd like to find a better user manual than the one Garmin made, explaining only the basic. I've been trying to find better documentation or videos for the 700 series and even for the 650. So far I'm out of luck. If you know where I could get good documentation or video on the Oregon please let me know

And thanks again :)
