+TheWetLog
I'm looking for some help picking the best Geocaching app to use when out and about. I've got a android, Samsung Galaxy i9000 running ice cream sandwich. I'm looking for an app that can use hybrid maps that can be saved offline and has a radar view. Anyone got any suggestions? +SKAMS
You might try out a:Drake. It has a built in download feature for map tiles. And this includes "Google" as the site says. Also it can use Map-Tile based atlases built by MOBAC. But an older version of MOBAC is needed for gmap hybrid maps, as that map source is remove in newer versions. This get complicated. Personally I use GDAK. But GDAK does only support OSM Maps (also offline). Quote Link to comment

For Offline maps I've used MOBAC 1.8 to make some 'Bing' maps as Google have changed something so even the older versions of MOBAC won't work. With the phone only supporting FAT I had to make three files that were just under 4GB and switch while out and about but it works fine so that's OK. For Online maps I put in this address http:// ecn.t2.tiles.virtualearth.net/tiles/h[q]?g=761&mkt=en-us and it also saves any tile to the phone if I do go some where that the Offline maps don't cover. Also the radar view is amazing. Quote Link to comment

Keystone
As a reminder, this forum section is reserved for discussions/questions about the authorized Geocaching Live applications only (such as NeonGeo or a:drake). Please discuss unauthorized applications elsewhere (such as c:geo). Thank you. Quote Link to comment
+GS64
I have Groundspeaks app, c:geo and NeonGeo installed I use Neongeo all the time, it's the fast to learn and a quick app. Quote Link to comment
+Misty and Minou
I use neongeo for caching and find it works great for me if I am out and about. Quote Link to comment
+mad_geek
I have tried several of them and found myself really liking CacheBox. It takes a little bit to get used to it, but it really supports offline caching very well. At the moment I have it running with a large database of caches available on the phone and 2 states worth of map tiles downloaded for it. Quote Link to comment
+indyalea
I tried 3 different apps, and I love and only kept one-- Cachesense. It has a free 30 day trial, then it is $5 for the app after that. I can do everything on my phone, through the app, and have no need to go to geocaching.com. I love it! If it matters, I have a HTC Thunderbolt. Quote Link to comment
+perfunctory butcher's
I've just installed a:drake and it's looking very promising but the only problem so far is finding help in English. Has anyone come across any active forums that I might find useful? I like that it uses Sqllite databases for it's offline storage so should be easy to play with the data. Quote Link to comment
+LeoLox
I'm very satisfied with the App Locus. You can load everything offline: Geocaches, maps, spoiler pictures and you have a lot of maps, you can overlay. Of course you can navigate and you have some geocaching-tools like 161m-distance circles and lots more. There are so many features, I still don't know. There is a free version Locus Free and a version you have to pay a little money. You may try the free the free version and then you might buy LOCUS PRO. It is really great! Locus a Geocaching-Live certified App, so I have chosen this. C:GEO it is told to be illegal. Quote Link to comment
Keystone
I've removed a post made to this thread today that promoted an application that is not a Geocaching Live-Enabled Application. Please post on-topic. Thank you. Quote Link to comment
Andronicus
I have been using NeonGeo, and really like it. It is not 100% intuative, but after getting used to it it works well. I would like if it had more sorting options (favorites, difficulty etc.). I also started using CacheMaid. It is prety good. I used it specificaly to import a costom benchmark gpx file. Non of the other apps I tried could do it. I used to use the Windows Mobile version of a:Drake. It was very good at sorting. Quote Link to comment

I did play with it a bit a while ago, but couldn't figure out all the features, it might be that I just need more playing time with it. What do you get in the paid version that you don't get in the free? And how do you download the maps so you can use them off line? What types of maps are available? (e.g. Google Maps? Satellite Maps? OpenStreetMaps?) Thanks for any further info! Quote Link to comment
+justmeg
I just downloaded the official Groundspeak app today, and man am I disappointed in it. It seems limited in it's functions to others Quote Link to comment
CraftyKel*
I started out with the official app, it's nice and simple for new users, but now I switch between it and Locus Free depending on the situation. I am planning to upgrade to Locus Pro and switch completely, once I get used to it better, It has sooo many more features, best among them is off-line mapping which the official app doesn't have on Android. My only problem with Locus at the moment is that when I add waypoints to caches it doesn't add them to the database (if I close the app they are lost). I tried importing gpx files but it doesn't do anything, I have to just load the gpx file to display the caches, I think that's why. Quote Link to comment
+chillypenguin
Give Locus a look, its a great caching/mapping app. Quote Link to comment

Locus is my primary app used for geocaching. Quote Link to comment
+mluostari
I've used the official app the last few times I've gone out geocaching and it has worked well so far. It's pretty easy to use, everything is pretty straight forward and easy to understand. I'm relatively new to the game and it has done everything I've needed it to so far. It seems a bit pricey, but at least I know I'm legal now. Quote Link to comment
+Eldorado89
I've had issues with the official app using waypoints in multi caches. Something that C:Geo does fairly well. Just installed Locus & neoncache, I'll give them a shot ;-). Quote Link to comment
+eccentric_
My only problem with Locus at the moment is that when I add waypoints to caches it doesn't add them to the database (if I close the app they are lost). I tried importing gpx files but it doesn't do anything, I have to just load the gpx file to display the caches, I think that's why. Go to "Settings/Geocaching/Automatic waypoint loading" and turn it on. Now when you mark a cache any waypoints should also load on the map (if you have the POI grouping on this can create weird linking between Groups and waypoints but it's not really a problem) Quote Link to comment
