+pixiestix13
I have a few questions regarding TB's and Coins. I have read many of the FAQ's, and viewed many topics, but still have a few questions, so please don't flame the newbie. If I find a TB or coin, should I be leaving another TB or coin in its place? I see many people are collecting coins, I was under the impression with coins, you shouldn't be keeping them, but moving them on if you find them. Is that correct, or do you keep the coins? Thank you for your help! Just want to make sure I play by the rules. Quote Link to comment
+Bear and Ragged
If I find a TB or coin, should I be leaving another TB or coin in its place? TB's and coins ARE NOT swag. You do not have to swap, eg 1 for 1 You do not take/leave trade items in place of TB's or coins. I see many people are collecting coins, I was under the impression with coins, you shouldn't be keeping them, but moving them on if you find them. Is that correct, or do you keep the coins? You can buy a coin for yourself and keep it in your own collection. Generally, those in caches are there to travel, not to add to your collection. (Although! There may on occasions be a FTF prize, but it should be stated that it is a prize... And sometimes some cachers will leave an unactivated coin as swag...) +Gitchee-Gummee
Very good question. Something that many should ask or should've asked some time ago. Trackables (Travel Bugs and geocoins) are not SWAG. SWAG is traded. Trade or trading is a term that shouldn't be associated with trackables, they are meant to move. Take one or six, it doesn't matter, just move 'em along. There is no "trade" requirement or rule. Those who say otherwise are just blowin' smoke. Regarding the collecting of coins... many people collect geocoins. But typically they buy and keep their OWN 'coin, not others' coins -- they may also trade 'coins with others, like a commodity. Some folks have huge collections requiring folders, display cases and yes, even suitcases full. Most always, they have bought them or traded for them. Certainly, some folks find and keep some, but that is just plain thievery. Taking and keeping a geocoin that isn't yours is... well... stealing. No ifs', ands, or buts' about it. +pixiestix13
Excellent! Thank you both for your responses. That's pretty much what I thought, but I wanted to clarify. Quote Link to comment
