G'day,

Recently two new Earthcaches are published on the island off Curacao and Bonaire. The both are listed in Dutch. Is there a member who can and wants to translate the listings in English, German and or Spanish? For those how will do the job I'll mail them a nice and exclusive unactivated Geocoin.

The listings are:

Seru Grandi [sOB-002] on Bonaire

Watamula - De adem van Curaçao [sOC-010] on Curacao

*** Somebody did offer to make the translation for English ***

Regards,

here the GC3Y914 using Google translate... I'll work on the other... But this is google so and I do not speak Dutch... SO maybe someone can at least confirm what Google says

Seru Grandi

Seru Grandi is located in the Washington Slagbaai National Park . Seru Grandi is translatable from Papiamento as " Big Mountain " . Seru , formerly also spelled Ceru or seroe means Bonaire hill. The meaning of " Grandi " can obviously guess fine.

Seru Grandi has along the dirt road a strong vertically rising wall . If you look closely and looking for can be found at the foot of the cliff marks an genuine original inhabitants of Bonaire ; native americans. It is also clear to see that Seru Grandi does not consist of a solid layer.

Washington Slagbaai National Park

This earthcache only visit and log if you simultaneously visiting the Washington Slagbaai National Park . The 5643 -acre park was founded in 1969 and is located in the northwest of Bonaire. The park covers about a third of the entire island. The more than 5600 acres consists of beach , mangrove , saliña , sand dunes, forest and rock formations. In 1971 the salinas Goto and Slagbaai designated by the then Ramsar Convention as internationally protected area . The rock formation extends to the sea. The park is open daily (except Christmas and New Year) from 8:00 am and closes at 17:00. It is advised to come early because it takes at least 2 hours to drive around the park. No later than 14.45 you can in the park. This does not apply if you are on a bike or if you plan to climb the Brandaris . Then you already look to be 12.00 in the park.

The entrance fee to the park is US $ 25 for adults for a calendar year. All children under 13 years there is no charge . Do you have a valid duiktag (Nature Fairy tag ), the admission is free.

(More information on the conditions of entry can be found on the washingtonparkbonaire.org website).

tectonic plate

The earth's crust , also referred to as lithosphere, consists of tectonic plates. In total there are six major tectonic plates and several smaller ones. The plates boundaries not look defined at the edge of a continent or the continental shelf. Sometimes the adjacent crust beneath the ocean also belongs to the same plate. Thus, both plates are built up of pieces of oceanic and continental crust , but also be able to record in the entire earth's crust from one of both types. In a very slow pace shifting tectonic plates. Where the plates slide over each other or against coming earthquakes and volcanism for .

Caribbean Plate

Bonaire is part of a largely oceanic tectonic plate called the Caribbean Plate . This tectonic plate includes the oceanic crust beneath the Caribbean Sea to the north of South America and also includes a part of Central America. The Caribbean Plate borders the Cocos Plate , North American Plate and the South American Plate . The ] area of the Caribbean Plate is approximately 3.2 million km2 . Around the plate boundaries , there is high seismic activity. There will be volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and tsunamis for .

rock Formations

Most of the older rock formations on Bonaire are formed under water. Bonaire was then, 90-100 million years ago , no island. That rock formations created by a large volcanically active region where the current Bonaire was located. It was formed sedimentary and volcanic rocks . Then came the formations 60 to 70 million years ago in motion. Bonaire is , as already described, geologically part of the Caribbean Plate. Around that time moved the Caribbean plate boundary in an easterly direction . This extended nature crusts over each other and came formations around that time above the sea level. Bonaire incidentally has an older history than Aruba and Curacao.

Then took two important events their inception :

1. The rocks were exposed to erosion. The debris was then removed by rainwater. Hills, valleys and plains developed ;

2. Around the island began to grow coral. Also arose dunes. In some places, the dunes have been moved far inland.

In the Washington Slagbaai National Park are both phenomena to observe.

Then the rock formation rose about 2 million years ago again . Approximately 40.00 years ago it happened again . This way, there are terraces. The upper terrace is about 1 million years old. And the middle terrace about 210 thousand years old.

The logging of this earthcache

To log this cache we would like an email with the answers to the following questions:

1 ) What color is the gesteent ?

2 ) Is there a difference in structure between the upper and the lower layer ?

3 ) What kind of rock you think it is?

4 ) What are you in ( to) the cliff ?

Of course you can also put a picture of your team while visiting this earthcache . This is optional but fun.

The other...

Watamula - The Breath of Curacao

This Earth Cache takes you through the village of West Point, a special geological location. Near this village is a dirt road towards the coast. Through this bumpy road and down you arrive at the sea. Along the way you encounter the signs " Watamula " against all . Watamula is Papiamento watermill. Papiamento is the language include the island of Curacao .

Graphical representation of the movement of the seawater at waypoint 2 .

It is clear that you have arrived at a blowhole , also called spray or blowhole. Blowhole is an English name . The spray or blaastgat is the geological term for a water fountain. Such a water fountain occurs when waves through the mouth or opening of a cave or cove with force funneled upwards . Blow Holes are particularly spectacular natural phenomena. The locals also thought so on and this area has also given a particular description :

"The Breath of Curacao . And indeed, literally feel the breath of the Earth! Even if the sea here is quiet, which is rarely the case , can you hear the breath. Waypoint 3 is one such place . Listen for yourself with your ear to the ground and hear breathing Curaçao.

Technically speaking, there are four main processes that can lead to the formation of a blow hole .

Hydraulic operation : The power of the wave compresses air bags in small cracks in the rock. When the water subsides convert the compressed air bags, which are under high pressure very quickly. The rock is in this manner always cracked to eventually break .

Abrasion : Waves crashing against the rocks . The pounding waves carry parts rock , gravel, sand , etc. and rub therewith by and against the cliff / crevices.

Chemical weathering : the ore, and then , in particular limestone (which is largely made up of calcium carbonate), is dissolved by acids in the seawater.

Friction: Golf Operation causes loose rock and debris collide. This results in smaller and rounder particles , which in turn have a schurendeffect on the rest of the rock.

Moreover, there are two particular tranporterende forces for the specific location :

Water: the difference between and and flood , is less than 0.5 meters at a constant flow around West Point .

Wind: throughout the year there is a constant wind flow from one and the same direction.

LOG CONDITIONS

QUESTION 1

Up here you have read the technical formation of blowholes. What motherhood process or processes work respectively to the formation of the symptoms of Waypoint 1 and 2 Waypoint ? Please motivate your answer.

QUESTION 2

Give a hypothesis how Watamula eventually will look like and why you think that? ( how the structure / form will change in the future)

Please Email your answers by using my geocaching.com profile , indicating the name of this Earth Cache . Feel free to log them right after you visit this Earth Cache before you have received a confirmation from me. However, if I received nothing within a reasonable time limit is your log removed.

I know that.. not trying to replace a native speaker someone might not want to take the time to do all of that but they might at least confirm it is ok and correct what's not.

I would add the language in the title so they know who you are even looking for.
