joel0711 Posted September 8, 2014 Share Posted September 8, 2014 Just got an Etrex30 and transferring waypoints from my Vista. I noticed it doesnt have an on and off tone to let you know it's status. All other tones are working such as message and key beeps. I'm looking on the tones page but do not see on and off listed. A lovely new 'feature' with the latest software is a switching off screen that appears for @4 seconds upon switching off, however as usual no documentation, so for the first few times you are left wondering what does it mean, do I have to do something extra, or do we just ignore it and let it do its own thing. As it turns out 'do nothing' appears to be the answer. Other than that a lovely GPS(espeacially the compass feature - doh! didn't mean to mention that). Quote Link to comment

Yes that worried me briefly the first time I saw it, having just done a firmware update (which can be fraught with danger) when I went to turn it off this appears for the first time and seems to just sit there so I was wondering if the update had "bricked" the GPS, but as you say just leaving it alone is the thing to do. Back to the OP. When I go to turn off my '30, there's a beep when I press the power button (the same beep that any button press generates), and then after holding it in for a second or so there's a second beep, followed by the "power off screen", followed by power down; I've never had a beep on power on. I'm not aware that I've set anything to enable the power off beeps, and just had a quick browse through the menus and don't see anything likely. Quote Link to comment
