Have you seen or reviewed an outstanding Waymark that you think should be listed as a featured Waymark? If you you can list it below in this thread or email either Checkmark or Waywizard. Note not all suggestions will end up being featured.

Please, don't get me wrong .. I'm just wondering how can such poorly documented waymark (3 sentences, basicly no information about the mountain) .. how can it happen to be promoted to featured?

Mountain looks nice, but all the good pictures come from visitors and listing is so brief, that I wouldn't even publish it if I were an officer. <_<

In my opinion, I would also suggest 'retiring' many featured waymarks that have been featured since its inception to make room for the many newer and broader spectrum of waymark locations that exist worldwide. To be honest, I get bored seeing the same group of featured waymarks whenever I log onto Waymarking.com. It would be a breath of fresh air to see more diversity and change and renew them every 6 months to a year.

Awww, that would be sad to see them retired. They are part of the Waymarking history!

What the Waymarking body could do is place a small 'Former Featured Waymark' banner or logo at the top so that visitors would know that it was once part of a 'select few'.... :D

Here are a couple of really nice waymarks from my recent trip from Charleston, SC... Both are in the Magnolia Cemetery.

WM5PJH - Smith Mausoleum - this is one of the most unusual mausoleums I've seen...

WM5HC3 - Rosalie Raymond White - a sad, but unusual death mask memorial in the shape of a crib...

Thanks for posting the Smith Mausoleum into the featured waymarks - It was rather unusual to find a pyramid in the middle of a very historic cemetery. Magnolia Cemetery is a hidden gem in Charleston and hopefully this featured waymark will highlight this great old cemetery!

I fully agree - just because they are 'older' in the Waymrk timeline - does not mean that they are not cool!

I came across this Headstones of Centenarians waymark today and couldn't believe what my eyes saw: A centenarian couple sharing the same grave! Not only that, this couple were born in the 1700s and died in the mid-to-late 1800s. This was unfathomable back in the day, an EXTREME rarity by today's standards, they definitely shared great genes! I think this grave of Isabel who lived to be 108 deserves special attention. Her husband is also waymarked but 'only' lived to be 104 years of age... :anibad:

108 - Isabel Makever - Rennsealaer, IN

I thought that the history of this building - the Jacob Wolf House - might be worthy of inclusion into the featured waymarks. It was originally built as the Courthouse for Izard County in Arkansas in 1829. When this county was divided in 1835, Jacob Wolf petitioned the legislature (helpful since he was a sitting member) to have the building and donated land be given back to him. This building is now the oldest public structure still standing in Arkansas - WMKKPN

I have also wondered what criteria were used in selecting a "featured" waymark. The number of views within x days after one has been posted?. The number of actual visits? One per category?

I don't think there is a criteria, but if you see an outstanding waymark you can post the link here. About two years ago there was a thread to ask for nominations for waymarks in categories that were NOT represented at all in the Featured Waymarks. A category can have more than one Featured Waymark, but the idea was to see more categories represented. I think the only criteria is a "wow" factor, or a waymark category that is not represented. Anything goes!

I would like to nominate the following waymark to be a Featured Waymark and to help give exposure to the new Feeding the Animals category:

Feed the Bears - Parc Oméga - Montebello, QC, Canada

This particular waymark is the PERFECT representation for this category and EXACTLY what this category is looking for!

Thank you for your consideration.

I'll feature it one facebook and I'm sure it will be a featured Waymark soon, because it's really a nice Waymark.

As the leader of the very successful and rapidly growing Free Community Book Exchanges category, I browsed through all the great submissions and narrowed down one that I thought would be a great candidate as a 'Featured Waymark' based on the following criteria:

1) It's a Little Free Library, the most common submission into the category thus far.

2) The library was submitted from Europe which tells me that its growing popularity is becoming 'global'.

3) It was submitted by a lesser-known waymarker in the community, so getting a little attention and recognition is always a good thing!

The link to this candidate:

Little free library, Den Haag - ZH, N

I feel this waymark is a great representation and typical of what this category is looking for.

I fully endorse it!

I REALLY hate to toot my own horn, but (and there is ALWAYS a BUT) I found one of the nicest Woodmen of the World Headstones yesterday in the Oaklawn Cemetery in Batesville, Arkansas. The thing is massive, beautiful, and honors a pretty interesting past citizen of Batesville. It's not your usual "tree-trunk" headstone...

Wow! As an officer in the Woodmen of the World I've never seen anything like it. Nice submission. The category already has a featured waymark but nothing like it. I endorse it!

You don't need to sell this one any more, it was featured about 15 minutes after iconions posted in the forums this morning. :anitongue:

Thanks everyone for the kind replies on this one - I REALLY appreciate it EXCEPT for the fact that it was my wife that spotted it and now I'm never gonna live that fact down!<_<

As the leader of the Graves of Unusual Deaths category I would like to submit a perfect example of what the category is looking for:

François Boileau - Tours, Centre, France

Chickilim submitted pictures of a beautiful headstone of a gentleman who unfortunately died in a train derailment over a bridge in France in 1878. His headstone is intricately made to represent his cause of death. I've never seen anything like this anywhere. This new category needs added exposure in the Waymarking online community. I would love to see this submission represent what the category would like to see from others!

Here's a link to my own waymark that I am suggesting could be a good fit to be featured. This waymark is very special to me, and to the community, as I designed, and constructed a geocaching course as my Eagle Scout Project earlier this year. The project helped me earn the Rank of Eagle in April of this year and I have been getting a lot of positive feedback from finders on Geocaching.com. My Eagle Scout Project was made with Waymarking & Geocaching in mind. A full compressive breakdown and links to the caches are found on the webpage for the waymark. http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WMPGR6_bluesnotes_Eagle_Scout_Project_Trabucco_Canyon_CA

Here's one of mine I'd like to recommend.

Feed the Carp - Linesville Spillway - Linesville, PA

http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WMMPNB_Feed_the_Carp_Linesville_Spillway_Linesville_PA

Probably one of the few legitimate "please feed the animals" locations where the animals to be fed are completely wild, not caged. usually feeding wild animals is discouraged. This site see upwards of 400,000 visitors per year!

Or this one, seems like that technology really took off!

World's First Successful Long Distance Telephone Call, Aug 10 1876 - Paris ON (Canada) - First of its Kind

http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WMH62Q_Worlds_First_Successful_Long_Distance_Telephone_Call_Aug_10_1876_Paris_ON_Canada

which of course has another "end" - can't make a phone call unless someone can receive it:

World's First Successful Long Distance Telephone Call, Aug 10 1876 - Brantford ON (Canada) - First of its Kind it

http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WMNCRX_Worlds_First_Successful_Long_Distance_Telephone_Call_Aug_10_1876_Brantford_ON_Canada

Finally, this one may be my favourite Waymark submitted to date:

History of the United States Of America - 1776 to 1904 - Mount Rushmore National Memorial, South Dakota, USA - Timelines

http://www.Waymarking.com/waymarks/WMPYQE_History_of_the_United_States_Of_America_1776_to_1904_Mount_Rushmore_National_Memorial_South_Dakota_USA

Not sure any of those are on par with some of the really great Suggested Waymarks that are currently on there. Pick one if you think it's suitable.

Thanks

Wow, thanks Checkmark or Waywizard! I just noticed two of the waymarks were selected as Featured Waymarks.

After 135 waymarks posted in the category "Dovecotes" it's time to pick one as featured waymark. The dovecot of the Château du Clos Lucé, where Leonardo da Vinci spent the last three years of his life, seems to me perfectly suited for that purpose. Its exterior architecture, the originality of the octagonal interior, the quality and number of photos of the poster (exterior and interior) and the information provided make it a good example of a waymark for this category.
