Geocaching Organizations in the Great Plains Region

Electric Mouse

Recommended Posts

This topic is to let you know about regional geocaching organizations in the great plains. These groups often sponsor event caches and online forums where geocachers in the same area can get to know each other and share information. Geocaching organizations also often play a pivotal role in maintaining good relations with the land managers for the parks and forests where we play our game. Getting involved in your local group is a great way to make new friends and find answers to questions about the local caching scene.

It is up to representatives of the organizations to maintain this thread with a list of links to the geocaching groups in the great plains. Please feel free to write a brief post about your geocaching group, giving its name, the area where most of its members live, and a link to the group's website, forums or mailing list. If your information changes later on, post a follow-up post.

Please do not use this pinned topic to promote individual events or initiatives that your group is undertaking. You can start separate topics for those. The moderating team may split out off topic posts into their own threads.

Finally, please note that this thread is not an endorsement by Groundspeak of any organization. It's just a convenient list of links.

Thanks!

Thanks for the thread EM....

The Iowa Geocachers Organization hosts several events a year, helps private organizations with events and our forums are fairly active. The web site has a list of upcoming events throughout the state, a list of members favorite caches and geocaching policy information for most of our 99 counties.

The IGO is open to anyone interested in geocaching in Iowa. We have no formal boundaries (for most things), everyone is welcome!

Council Bluffs/ Omaha anyone?

Here is the link to the Nebraska group, there are many members in Omaha/Council Bluffs and surrounding areas. Nebraskache is a group of cachers from across Nebraska.

Find us on Yahoo Groups: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Nebraskache/

You will see that we have a Sat morning breakfast every week (usu in Plattsmouth) which is a great way to meet area cachers and can usually find someone to cache with that day too.

I am in the Overland Park area of KC. I am thinking about starting up a breakfast club (no pun intended) as a geocachers meet and great. I think there needs to be some sort of group in the Overland Park/Lenexa area to get cachers together from these cities as well. Let me know what you think. I would be happy to go caching with others in my area as well.

Actually, though they haven't been listed (til now) there's the Missouri GeoCachers(www.mocache.net) and the Kansas City Chapter. We'll be moving back in a couple months.

Here's the link to the Central Oklahoma and Tulsa Area Geocachers: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/geocacheok. They host 2 main events each year, one in the spring and fall. It's a pretty active forum with new posts and discussion daily. Our reviewer also contributes here, too.

You can also find Central Oklahoma Geocachers and Tulsa Area Geocachers on Facebook. Also there is an Oklahoma Geocachers page.

After many years of inactivity I've started Geocaching again.

I've tried to find local cachers, but it seems that the

Tulsa Area Geocachers is not to be found. What I have found

for this group is 2-3 years old.

Anyone have any current info?

Not sure what's going on with TAG.

Central Oklahoma Geocachers (C.O.G.) has a Facebook page.

Can't speak much for them, we're down in Lawton and are more involved with the Southwest Oklahoma Geocachers (SWAG).

Any groups in the Topeka Ks area?

Yeah, a couple in the area. To the west in Manhattan is Flint Hills Geocaching, and to the east is the Kansas City Group. There may even be one somewhat close to the South (Emporia area), but i can't remember their name. There are a number of very active cachers in Topeka, and I'm not sure they have a formal "group" but still manage to do a lot of caching together. The best way to meet them is attend an event and you'll be warmly welcomed. Since Topeka is centrally located, they get a lot of cross-pollination between the "official" groups. If you're in the Manhattan area, give a jingle, would be happy to introduce you around.
