rcgyuk
Hi, Am probably being thick, but I can't work out pocket queries at all I have a premium membership, and I have the official app on an android phone. I can log into the website on my PC, create a pocket query, download the .gpx file to my PC, and unzip it, but what do I do next? I tried to follow the instructions on this website, i.e. : Steps for accessing a Pocket Query on the Android: On the website, visit http://www.geocaching.com/pocket/ to create a Pocket Query. Choose to receive the results in .GPX format. No problem here. After the Pocket Query has been generated, login to the Android application and press 'Pocket Queries' from the main search screen. All I see is a blank screen, but then the GPX file is on my PC, not on my phone. How do I get it on my phone? Choose the Query that you would like to access. I don't see any When the download is complete, return to the main search screen using the back button. Download? how? nothing to download. Can some one explain what I am doing wrong? (or not doing) Many thanks Quote Link to comment
Bear and Ragged
Which app? There are several 'Official Apps' If it's Groundspeaks own, once the PQ has been generated (It should show in the second tab 'Ready to Download' on http://www.geocaching.com/pocket/) It is then ready to find in the app. If you are logged in to your account, start the app and select PQ's -the lightening symbol- and your PQ's should be listed. +niraD
As Bear and Ragged indicated, Groundspeak's Geocaching app should be able to download PQ data directly from the server, using the API. (FWIW, Neongeo and other third-party API-based can do the same thing.) If you have the appropriate USB cable, then you can transfer GPX files from your PC to your phone. You'll need to confirm the connection on the phone, and then the phone will appear as a filesystem on your PC. From there, you can drag-and-drop the GPX file. Then you just need to "eject" the phone's filesystem from the PC, and disconnect the USB cable. Quote Link to comment
rcgyuk
Yes, am using Groundspeak's Geocaching app. "should be able to download PQ data directly from the server, using the API" What's an API ? "the phone will appear as a filesystem on your PC. From there, you can drag-and-drop the GPX file" To where on the phone? "If it's Groundspeaks own, once the PQ has been generated (It should show in the second tab 'Ready to Download' on http://www.geocaching.com/pocket/)" Yes it does show. "It is then ready to find in the app." How ? "If you are logged in to your account," App shows my user name, caches found, and premium member. "start the app and select PQ's -the lightening symbol- and your PQ's should be listed. " Selecting PQ's gives me a blank screen. Regards Quote Link to comment
Bear and Ragged
You don't need to download the PQ to your computer, the app will see the PQ. Lots of questions, sorry. Is the PQ running? Does it show in the second tab? Do you delete the PQ from the list? (Don't. Until you no longer need it) What version of the app? I'm v2.3.1 Have you authorized the app to allow it access to your Groundspeak account? Does the app show in this list: http://www.geocaching.com/my/applications.aspx You could always try sign out, sign back in. Or Delete the app, then reinstall. Quote Link to comment
rcgyuk
Lots of questions, sorry. "Is the PQ running?" As as I can see, it has run. Not sure what you mean by 'running' "Does it show in the second tab?" Heading on second tab is: "Pocket queries ready for download (1)" "Do you delete the PQ from the list? (Don't. Until you no longer need it)" Which list? The list where you generate the query, or the list on the second tab? When I generated the query, I selected "Run this query once then delete it" On the second tab, I have one line: Name: My Finds Pocket Query, with a red X to the left of the text. File size: 8.52kb Waypoints: 15 Last Generated (PST): 06/16/2012 (6 days remaining) What version of the app? I'm v2.3.1 Can't see how to see what version I am running from within the app, but I only downloaded it a couple of days ago. from my phone/menu/settings/manage applications/Geocaching I see : Geocaching version 22 Storage Total 4.77MB Application 3.21MB Data 612KB Cache 0.96MB Permissions Your location: course (network based) fine (GPS)location Storage: modify/delete SD Card contents Network communication: Full network access "Have you authorized the app to allow it access to your Groundspeak account?" Yes. "Does the app show in this list: http://www.geocachin...plications.aspx" Yes "You could always try sign out, sign back in." Tried that, when I logged back in it asked me to allow Geocaching for Android to access my Geocaching account, I said Yes. Still blank screen when I go to Pocket Queries (after about 10 seconds of twirly thing in top right of screen) "Or Delete the app, then reinstall. " Does that mean I will have to buy the app from Android Market again ? Regards Robert Quote Link to comment
Bear and Ragged
"Or Delete the app, then reinstall. " Does that mean I will have to buy the app from Android Market again ? No. It's still 'in the shop' and can be downloaded again, without a fee. Wonder if the "Run this query once then delete it" part is causing the problem? Try running the PQ with "Uncheck the day of the week after the query runs" rather than "Delete" (Vague memories of it being a problem in the past... Not for me, but did cause problems for others.) When you start the app the start screen -with Groundspeak.com- has the version in the top right corner. Only visible for a few seconds! "Does it show in the second tab?"Heading on second tab is: "Pocket queries ready for download (1)" That second tab, should show the PQ if it's been run and generated. IF the PQ is listed there, the phone app should see it. Quote Link to comment
JesandTodd
Wonder if the "Run this query once then delete it" part is causing the problem? I cannot access PQs on my iPhone that have been set to "run once and delete". They don't show up. Set it to run on a day and see if that works. You may have to rerun it again though..
