Surveyor Jokes

My Mom sent this to me a while back...I thought it was cute!

I also remember a series of photos of a Polar Bear chasing a surveyor around his truck.

Any surveyor jokes out there?

Government surveyors came to Ole's farm in the fall and asked if they could do some surveying.

Ole agreed and Lena even served them a nice meal at noon time.

The next spring, the two surveyors stopped by and told Ole, "Because you were so kind to us, we wanted to give you this bad news in person instead of by letter.

Ole replied, "What's the bad news?

The surveyors stated, "Well, after our work we discovered your farm is not in Iowa, but is actually in South Dakota!"

Ole looked at Lena and said," That's the best news I have heard in a long time, why I just told Lena this morning, I don't think I can take another winter in Iowa."

Oh - these pictures (there's about a half-dozen, but these two sort of sum up the event).

Place: Kaktovik Alaska (not Churchill, Canada - the trucks have AK plates...)

See how tall a polar bear gets when he/she stands up? They're big...

Guy looks like a real candidate for the Darwin Awards, doesn't he?

Speculation about him being a surveyor is based on the equipment leaning

up against the pickup. Looks more like an expensive video camera mount to me...

Going to the whale butchering grounds and photographing scavenger bears is

a fairly common event along Alaska's north coast for visitors to the communities

which still practice subsistence whaling.

Does it have to be a "joke", or can I offer up a sorta funny truism?

On a dam rehab project three or four lifetimes ago, I worked with an old surveyor who said as long as he had just one lath left, he could never get lost. All he had to do was drive the lath into the ground and wait. Within half an hour, an equipment operator would come along and run over it.

Yes, that qualifies!

Funny, and oh so true! I've seen 'em doing it!

Some years ago, my wife was a secretary at Smith & Smith Surveyors, in Apex, NC. One afternoon, a crew returned from a job and staggered into the office. Their clothes were torn and they were covered in dirt.

"What happened to you guys?" she asked.

"We were on that big job out on Olive Chapel Road, and we had to cross over onto the adjoining farm," they replied.

"So, what's unusual about that?"

"It's an OSTRICH farm. First, we got chased by an ostrich, and then we were chased by the irate woman who owns the ostrich!"

Just wanted to let Okies Kid know, I posted his truism to a reddit page (regarding surveying) with appropriate credit of course:
